What is going on at Google with their android apps?

I tried (again) today to see if I could run with Google's offerings instead of Samsung's and others which I normally use and yet again I was left so frustrated that I ended up deleting most of them.

Issues include:

Google App:
massive battery hog.
Only fully functional in US language.
A miriad of odd options which I have no clue what they do ( cartoons?)
Poor widgets.
Unable to accept that I don't want a flippin' feed.
Cards are rubbish and are mostly useless outside of the US. No decent card widget or display function outside of the GN launcher.

GNL:
Not pixel. Will never be pixel. Pixel doesn't exist ffs.
Crap widgets
Can't change a damn thing.
No dark mode
Massive icons.
White everywhere
Basically a platform for cards which are garbage.

Maps:

When did maps get so rubbish? It it borderline useless for travel. The damn thing doesn't respond for ages when opened.
What's with the ninja location based info feed settings? Why the hell do I want to know that a train I don't use us leaving in 10 mins? Why do you hAve my GPS on steroids?

Gmail:

Widgets are crap.
Poor options. What? No multi select for messages?
A confusing Mish mash of post 2000 software developments. It's all fur and no knickers.

Assistant.
Good lord. I subscribed to play services beta to try to get this to work as I don't live within 50 miles of mountain view. Had to download Allo to get it, even though I've been using another of Google's messaging apps (hangouts) which seems to be getting more marginalised with each passing update.
Didn't work. Tried everything but between GPS, GNL, Google app, and allo all arguing with each other I gave up.

Goggles.
Last updated in 2014.

Google home/Chromecast
Love Chromecast. Hate it's unreliability. I am forever factory reset it it because it just won't let me cast. Seems to not reset it's links once I've disconnected and won't let me in again.
Home app is a mess. Looks and works like it was done on a Sunday afternoon.

Contacts. Contacts.
Wot? Two of the same apps? Wtf is Google carrier for play services?
Why is it so white?

Pdf pdf.

Yes. Two of the same app here as well in the play store

Calender
Widgets are awful.
No reminders? Seriously

I could go on.

Some of the issues are Google wide:
A abundance of white
US centric feature sets
Inter- App conflicts
Adandoned and poorly supported.

I disable
Google app
Google+
Books
Games
Gmail

And anything else I can on my Samsung normally and use Samsung's Apps where possible. I find a huge increase in battery life and much better synergy.

Why are Google apps just so poor? Why do they feel like beta applications? Why can Google not have a synergy and uniformity of approach and quality with its apps.
If you read Reddit at all, Google software is basically a laughing stock.

I'm thinking that should just give up lol.

Thoughts?

Have too much coffee this morning?

I haven't seen any problems with any of the Google Apps I use, so can't really comment on that. But they are free... so if you don't like them then don't use them.

I don't use all the Google apps/features, or even all the ones you've mentioned.

But I'm perfectly happy with the ones I do routinely use:
Gmail, Maps, Photos, Music, Chromecast, Android Auto

The one Google app which does frustrate me is Google Fit. That's because away from iOS its only really Google who have the potential to create a hub for health/fitness data, and they're doing a shoddy job of this compared to Apple Health on iOS.

Right, so i gave these another go.

Google feed: (on the launcher) fixes stories on the top and active/live data below. There is no way to swipe stories you read away. you have to go into the dots and delete them 1 by 1.
For some reason, google is obsessed with me taking the bus, even though i tell it i drive.
I can't get to the live, important stuff without swishing through stories.

Messages: I've been sent an MMS. google thinks this now a MMS conversation which costs me money.

Stupid apps.

Hmm I think Google Assistant is far superior to Siri or Bixby. Love Google Calendar, Drive, Maps, Gmail, Photos, and Playstore. Just wish they would perfect an agnostic messaging alternative for iMessage.

Yup. I managed to move my entire family to Google Photos as my brother-in-law has a Nexus 5X. Great decision all around.
