"It also could give Google data on brick-and-mortar transactions, which still comprise the vast majority of all commerce and could be used to better target advertising to consumers."

That last quote is a big reason why Apple Pay has my vote/business over Google Wallet.

But at the same time, a good and necessary step for Google. The NFC format for mobile payments needs to become the standard - Apple Pay/Google Wallet should become the main ways to pay so that something like CurrentC never really takes off.

I'd rather give google my transaction data versus visa/mastercard, too bad there is no way to do that, aside from direct linking to bank account, which gets a no thanks from me.

the amount of money visa/mastercard make, with essentially no liability is disgusting. The underwriting bank almost always takes the loss over visa/mastercard. They just rake in money for essentially riskless processing, meh. and they get all the user data, sure apple doesnt get it, but your processor is always watching

Those poor little banks taking a loss...not like they have been bailed out before or forced losses on to someone or not taking any liability....oh wait.
