I'm on MacOS Big Sur (up to date) with the latest Chrome 92.0.4515.131 (Official Build) (x86_64).

Today, out of nowhere, Google search results are now showing up in bold. It's annoying. I double-checked the chrome://settings, verified they are correct, restarted the browser, no luck.

I'm not sure how this could happen, as I didn't change anything locally. Anyone else notice? Is it a local issue or a Google/remote issue?

Thanks.

Could you post a screenshot? Here's one from Chrome (same version but for Apple Silicon) and also Big Sur up to date. Looks normal to me. Are you referring to just the hyperlinks (blue) being bold, or something else?

Sorry, I should have included the screenshot in my initial post.

See here where the font changed. The default font for Google Chrome is (and has been) Helvetica.

This is somewhat crazy but someone on Reddit with this problem suggested the following solution

Check and see if you have the Roboto font installed. If you do, delete it.

I removed the Roboto fonts, restarted the browser and that didn't solve the issue, FYI.

The problem appears on other websites, too, via Chrome and Firefox, so the issue is at the system level.

Again, I'm puzzled -- I didn't change any settings. The only font-related activity I performed was installing two fonts: Aurulent Sans and Dense. Removing these fonts and restarting the browser had no effect.

Bizarre, frustrating. Apple doesn't seem to have any settings to check/verify in the Control Panel.

Another update. I went to Font Book and selected "Restore System Fonts" -- but, I changed my mind and cancelled (didn't enter password). Then, walla... the fonts were back to normal!

This is likely a bug. Anyone else been able to see this?

That worked for me! Thank you! I had the exact same problem you were having; all of a sudden, the text for every Google search was bolded and I couldn't figure out how to get it back to default. It was getting annoying. Thanks again for the fix!
