Google Drive announced, have apple got any up their sleeves?

Ok,
Microsoft, Google and Dropbox the big players in the cloud. Apple has announced the death of iDisk at the end of June, but do you really think they will not announce a new cloud storage system or maybe expand iCloud's functionality?

As much as I would like to see it, I really don't think Apple will come out with an iDisk replacement similar to Dropbox, SkyDrive or Google Drive. They are putting all their efforts into putting the cloud file sharing into the apps themselves. With ML we will see iCloud built into Pages, Numbers, etc. and also into Finder. But I don't think it will be a service that will store all kinds of file types like you can with Dropbox, etc. That is why I'm not waiting around and have gone ahead and used Dropbox and SkyDrive. I may be completely wrong on all this, but it's just my impression from what I've seen from Apple so far.

That seems contradictory to me. If iCloud is integrated into finder, why can't you use all file types with it?

Finder integration won't be there. Only accessible through the apps or browser.

I disagree. Steve Jobs approached DropBox to acquire them not too long ago. There is an obvious desire by Apple to have this feature. I think with the release of Google Drive, it puts DropBox in a better position to sell and Apple will be getting a cheaper price by the day. You will see Finder integration, or DropBox syncing attached to your Documents for sure... You will also see in App cloud syncing as well but you will be able to access them from your iCloud as well, not just by opening the app.

Well, that is my hope anyway!

No, if Dropbox had been bought out by Apple, it probably would have lost most its features by now. For Apple, it is much better to worry about iCloud integration within apps like Pixelmator, iMovie, Espresso, Logic Pro, and whatever else in the Mac App Store than to have people just push whatever files into their accounts. Otherwise you'll just have people using it as a way to push all their stuff, creating clutter, and being files that they'll probably never touch again.
