Recently, I've been trying to get my website indexed by popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo etc. One of the keyword phrases that I really want to have my website show up at the top of the list is "Andrew." I've done things like put that in my meta tags, other websites where my page is linked to from, and prayed.

What arent I doing/why wont my site show up first when it is truly the right site for that search query, and my page has a higher pagrank than most others there?

I believe the seach algorithm compares and contrasts title, description, keywords, and text in the actual doc - so you've got to repeat, repeat, repeat. That last one (text) trips up most folks who use flash animations for their home page.

edit: I just checked out your home page and you've done a great job at populating with "<removed name>" How recently did you post the page? (within the last 3 weeks?)

Alright, it looks like that helped a bit, now I'm number two. I think that happened out of cooincidence though, because usually it takes months for them to update their stuff. Now I have a bigger problem.

When you do a site search: for, all the pages that they have indexed are the FEEDs to my blog so when people click on the link to the feeds, something weird happens and it doesnt work. Does anyone know why this is???

Submit a sitemap to Google, they help a lot.
Google loves content, make as many pages as possible.
How SEO are you pages? Do you have pages like index.php?name=name or /name/name.htm?

be glad your name isn't as common as mine

what's funny is that i have personalized search on, and this thread ranks higher than your homepage for me.

Also, the more accessible it is (like for text-only browsers and screenreaders for the visually disabled), the better it is for search engines.

Also, how do you know that other people shouldn't be #1 and you should?
Sounds a bit...funky...

I happen to be number 1 on my own search. Submitting, sitemaps, meta tags, and text itself work well. It might have helped that my full name is in the URL as well.. but..
