From Android Central:

"The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Motorola has filed with the International Trade Commission (that's the same one that blocked the HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE for a spell) to sue Apple over seven undisclosed patents. The patents relate to the iPhone, the iPad and the iPod touch, for which Motorola is seeking an import ban.

So far, the only official word from Motorola has been "We would like to settle these patent matters, but Apple's unwillingness to work out a license leaves us little choice but to defend ourselves and our engineers' innovations.""

Well...

I tend to be a free market guy, all about lack of regulation. That being said, if you buy a patent, you didn't discover it, and you should therefore license it to others (for a price, of course)

Meh. this is old news.

Motorola is just Google's tiny little annoying cousin suing everyone.

Microsoft and Apple should team up because both hate Motorola.

Either that or they're in one of the iDevice forums rather than the non-Apple forum :p

They're quite vocal in this Alternative forum in other threads. It's usually when you call them out on their ridiculousness that they suddenly disappear. Case in point, Batting1000 in the "HTC One X (it was meant to be)" thread.

Googles going to need to start doing this to defend manufactures that use Android.

Surprised it took this long. I don't care if this stuff happens because patents should be defended. Remember when Apple was suing for slide to unlock while blatantly copying camera from the lock screen?

How can you deal with a company like that?

Where are all the Apple-lovers who said that it's very berry important to protect one's own patents?

Are you trying to bait them in here and start an argument? Because that's sure what it seems like you're trying to do.

Not to mention the fact that you're using the term "Apple-lovers" in a negative way. This is a website dedicated to Apple and Apple products, so what other kinds of people are you expecting here?

You must not know my post history. I'm an apple fan. The issue is there are certain apple lovers that are horribly inconsistent and hypocritical with their criticisms.

In this case they were quite adamant that apple must protect their patents (against Samsung). Simply wondering where their vigor for patent protection is now.

Well, there's the kind of people that are simply Apple product users. You know, those who happen to use Apple products and don't worship the company. I know it might sound strange, but such people do exist...

I fully understand why that hypocrisy would irritate you. But I'm sure you also know very well that a staunch Apple supporter won't cheer on Google/Motorola against Apple.

Me personally? I don't care much about anybody's patents at this point. The system is so messed up that it's worthless to "support" a company in these cases. That said, I fully understand why Apple and Google are both defending their patents- because they can.

Understood. But is it a bad thing to like Apple as a company?

When he is calling out the "Apple-Lovers" he's referring to the people I consider to be the blind followers. These are the ones that can't see past the Apple logo. To them, everything Apple does is totally just. They believe all the technology we see today, mobile and desktop, was invented by Apple. And regardless of all other FACTS that stare them straight in their faces, they will blindly follow the word of Apple. They would make Mitt Romney jealous with the number of times they flip flop their Opinions to fall in line with Apple's products. Ironically, these brand loyal consumers are the types who actually are harmful to innovation. They are the reason you see companies like Apple that introduce small increments of upgrades year after year.
The industry needs demanding consumers who aren't afraid to switch brands as soon as a company starts sitting on its laurels.

Isn't it ironic that many of the people who complain about Apple fanatics are the exact same way, just for Android instead?

Apple's a brand, Android is an OS. So basically, someone buying an Android phone could buy an LG, HTC, Samsung, Sony, etc... So if you don't like one you can jump ship to another Brand. You can jump ship to another Android brand, Blackberry, or Apple. You see? Those are manufacturer brands.
I think the posts above are pointing out that you just don't find die hards like Apple die hards in this industry. But let's be clear, not every Apple customer is a die hard that will just buy anything Apple.

Agreed.

Yes. This is what I've been saying for the longest time. The likes of Bobby corwen, technarchy, batting1000, and their ilk don't realize their intellectual dishonesty is actually doing harm.

So wait....despite owning Macs and PC's ( running Windows/Linux of course! )...and owning an iPod, Zune, and Android Phone....( I won't keep listing ).......

I don't have to bow down Before my iMac and pray to Apples greatness?

Whoa....

I doubt very few true "Apple lovers" actually believe that Apple invented much of anything. If you know enough about Apple to be a huge fan, you also know that their claim to fame isn't inventions- it's the way they synthesize prior inventions. Your average person on the street? Sure, they probably believe Apple invented the touch screen and stuff like that. But they also don't care enough to defend Apple. If you tell them that Apple doesn't invent much of anything, you'll probably get something like, "Oh. Wow. Okay then, didn't know that..." and they'll happily go on with their life.

I think you're stereotyping some of the people here just a little too much.

The only thing I see in common between the people you've listed is that none of them seem to have a problem with iOS 6 or the rumored iPhone 5/6/83/whatever they end up calling it. I've seen people try to essentially change these peoples' point of view and become frustrated when they still prefer iOS over Android. And that's their right. I understand why you would take issue with them and correct them if they mischaracterize competing platforms, but there seems to be a general attitude around here that there is no possible way a sane person could prefer iOS 6 over Android 4.1. Again though, that's just my observation.

There are different levels.

Completely agreed. I admit to being a big Apple fan, but I always try to stay rooted in reality and follow what Microsoft and Google are doing as well, because I never want to become confined to an echo chamber, so to speak. There are some really nice things that both of those companies are doing, things that will inevitably influence future Apple products. So why limit myself?
