Google Hangouts: "No network connection. Tap to retry."

My Google Hangout app on my iPhone 5 always shows this error message about my network connection, whether I am on wifi or on AT&T's data. My messages get hung up...some of them go through and some don't. Anybody else having issues with Google Hangout?

Tapping it many times, 4, 5, forcing it to keep retrying eventually jump starts it. Frustrating. Was really hoping to migrate to this native app from BeeJive... Maybe its just not ready doe prime time.

It occurs if your network administrator using Proxy server.

Im not sure it is. It might be the cae when im on wifi at work, but i get the same "tap to connect" when im at home on wifi, and im pretty sure a basic ADSL and apple wifi router isnt set up and a proxy server!

How come they still haven't sorted this out? I've stopped using Hangouts as a result.
