The google I/O keynote is later on today. It starts at 10 am PDT (5 pm UK time).

You can live stream it on youtube.

I'm interested in seeing what developments they have made to the google assistant and what the desktop mode in android Q will be.

I have been back and forth on adding a Pixel to be a companion to my iPhone so interested to see what Q is all about, the confirmed price of the 3a, and any other fun stuff to dabble in.

Fun living in both worlds.

I just sideloaded the beta 3 OTA to my Pixel 3 and iOS-like navigation is here! and the ability to turn on 3-button navigation bar as well!
to turn on, go to Settings -> System -> Gestures -> System Navigation

Basically a straight copy of iOS.... And I'm so happy to see it. :D

I'm not ready to dive into the beta quite yet though as my Pixel 3 XL is my primary daily driver.

and you can go back from the right side too, which is actually pretty nice. I'm kind of preferring that method right now as I usually hold my phone in my right hand, so the right edge is easier and quicker to reach.

gotcha. Yeah, my daily is a S10e, but threw this on my P3 which I will use as a daily driver until I run into a bug or something that makes me go running back to my S10e ;)

Oh, I didn't catch that in the demo, was listening in the background and thought it was a 'forward option'. Doesn't really make must sense, if I'm honest...gestures in opposite directions to do the same thing? I could understand if it let you configure it based on being left or right-handed but swipe from either side to go back doesn't seem intuitive.

The gestures are nice.

No mention of desktop mode!

Good to see they are trying a new way of getting updates out. I think if they are successful in pushing the security updates out via the play store they might start pushing out system updates that way.

Am I the only person who thinks this is huge news?

In my opinion, the Android O.E.M. hardware exceeds Apple's iPhone. But where they fall short is in software and it is the software that ultimately defines the experience.

You can have a great phone, but if there is a software bug that is nagging you for months with no fix, just how great will your opinion be of the company?

The improvements to the Google Assistant are breathtaking.

Is it coming to pixel phones?

I LOVE the assistant coming from Siri on a phone though I have multiple Hubs, minis around the house. It is so good at finding specific things for me.

My biggest complaint and its super annoying is I cant use the assistant unless I unlock the phone to play music on spotify or send a text. Would be super useful when driving.

Is there a video that goes into detail on just the Assistant upgrades?

I read somewhere that it's 10x faster??

Here we go...

This is pretty big news for me, as an instant Assistant takes the phone to another level & it was already a few levels higher than Siri to begin with.

Apple lagging on the Voice Assistant front is my main gripe with IOS.
