Google is reportedly set to launch their own wireless service this year

Reports from several sources close to the matter that Google is gearing up to launch their own wireless service later this year. Codenamed “Nova,” the service — which will run on a combination of T-mobile and Sprint towers — will see Google acting as an MVNO, similar to StraightTalk, Simple Mobile, and other competing prepaid wireless services.

The project is being lead by Google exec Nick Fox and will see Google directly selling mobile phone plans to customers, managing all of their calls and mobile data the same way any other MVNO wold. Originally, it was scheduled to go live in the fall and even has some Googlers already testing the service over in Mountain View.

In theory, that sounds great. Unfortunately, it would be difficult to get it passed. But, Google could make a big difference. Maybe, this would get Apple to counter?

In my area, too. Maybe, with Google getting involved (not buying but still infusing money into the 2), things could change. Already, t-mobile is having a good impact on att.

I say good for Google, this will be fun to watch. Never afraid to try and fail, Google is always interesting, often funny, and a strong player in the big picture of tech. For the sake of choices and variety, I hope this venture's a smashing success

this was my original thought. But I bet with google on board they will really start to beef up their towers and could be a major competition for the monopoly atta and verizon share. Competition is GREAT for us consumers.
