Just spent a good hour wasting time walking in my neighbourhood streets…
:D
I am amazed by the coverage. Excellent.

BBC link…

Google has launched the UK version of its Street View service, which allows users to browse a selection of pictures taken along city streets.

Street scenes in 25 UK cities from Aberdeen to Southampton can be viewed using the service.

The Netherlands version of the service also launched on Thursday, bringing the number of countries covered to nine.

The imagery available comprises video taken along 22,369 miles of UK streets by customised camera cars.

I have been playing all morning too. Works on the iPhone as well.

Found a few odd people around different friends' houses :D

It is weird sitting at my window and looking at the view through my computer display.
Just the seasons are wrong. We were definitely "snapped" in mid summer

Haven't found any strangers lurking though.
:)

I had the same feeling, seeing all these local places with the sunny skies make me want summer again.

I had been trying to work out when the pictures around me were taken. Google have done a pretty good job of blurring out the details. Zooming in on a (now closed) dry cleaners they have a sign up showing bank holiday opening times. The dates on them suggest it was the May bank holiday. So my areas was snapped then.

Checked this out earlier. Found a friend and his Porsche on display in his garage - I think we'll be asking Google to remove that one ;)

I wonder how much Google had to pay in congestion charges to get photos of Central London ;)

I would assume Google would use Google to search for the congestion charge times and would've gone in at the weekends :D

Hmm

This is obviously very good news for people living in the 20 cities which have been photographed, as they can have a look around their neighbourhoods.

I just wish I could, my town probably won't be on there for a while, so I can't really get too excited about it.

.. London ..
I've been photographed! I was out walking somewhere in London, and turned round to find a Google car right next to me. Had the cameras on top and the logo on the doors and everything.

Greatly excited, I rushed home to look myself up, and was greatly disappointed to find that UK Street View was nowhere near launching yet :( (hey, I was younger then... ) So I promptly forgot about it.

Now, it's finally launched, and I can't bloody remember where I was standing when I was photographed!

I have to say, I understand some of the privacy concerns - I had some qualms when I realised what I was standing next to. I'm not that private a person - I've been in the media a bit - but on my own terms please, not by someone creeping up behind me to splash me on the net's biggest website.
