Google map + location services killing battery

whenever i turn on my location services and use google map, my iPhone6 battery drains like water. It goes down by about 30% with a mere 10-15 mins of use.
And sometimes i have even noticed a sudden drop of 10% when using google maps with location services on. This is surely not normal.
Anybody faced this? Any resolution?

I had this problem with Waze (early user) and Google maps. I had to delete Waze, and allow Google location services when using the app, but not allow contact information.
