There's a button in the bottom left corner of the Google Maps screen...looks like a sight on a gun. Hit that.

no, I know about that, and it works, it finds my location,

I'm just being superficial.

For example, the BLUE pin, how do I get that (not the red pin from the Address book, or the purple pin when you hit "drop pin")

and how does your pin travel with you and "pulsate"
, and the GPS circle is not shaded in blue, but only a blue ring.... (comparing screens with other google maps screenshots.

Looks like that GPS hasn't pin-pointed you just yet. GPS Location takes anywhere from a second to several minutes.

Being in a wide open space with no trees or obstructions will help out the GPS locator

Do you "Location Services" turned on? Settings -> General -> Location Services

It sounds like it is just using triangulation and finding your approximate whereabouts (in which a circle pops up indicating your general area). If you want the thing to be able to pinpoint your location you need to turn on location services so that the GPS chip can locate you with a lot more accuracy (thus giving you the single point location with the blue pin that pulsates and follows you).

Yes I have location services on, but I figured it out. I left my office yesterday and tried it again in the car on the way home, it worked like a charm.

GPS on iPhone 3G doesn't work over Wifi.

When I'm connected to 3G it works fine, but when I'm connected to WiFi
(90% of the time I'm Wifi) I get only triangulation, no GPS.

Were you inside a building when you tried it before? GPS will not work (well or at all) in a building, it has to be able to "see" the satellites. Maybe that was the problem?
