The latest update for the Google app is out, and IMO, it's much more functional now. They've made the "bells & whistles" Easter egg appear by default now, as well as switching on "open links within app" work by default. The latter works much better now. I don't know if it was just me, but using the back arrow never worked properly before. The redesigned search bar also now looks a lot better.

I only wish they'd made the app links (mail, calendar etc.) open within the app as well.

To make this app perfect, i'd love to see the ability to search my gmail and google bookmarks from within the app. That would rule.

I guess we'll also be seeing a camera icon appear in an update soon alongside the voice search icon, for the recently announced Google Goggles. I'm intruigued how well this will work - searching the web using an image/photo. Supposedly we'll be able to search for things by taking a photo of, for example, a barcode, landmark etc. Sounds pretty amazing, but it's currently a Google Labs service and only available on Androd phones while they stress test the service.

I'd rather see Goggles used by mobile Safari itself. I never really thought the Google Mobile App was all that useful to begin with other than suggested search results and voice search. By instinct all my searches are done through the browser.

Trouble with that is you can't upload images from the photo roll with mobile safari. I know what you mean about instinctively searching in safari, but I think I'll be more inclined to use the google app now that page navigation works properly, and it has suggestions as you type, which is quite useful. I could see myself using this instead of safari altogether if it would let me search my google bookmarks.
