Google Music Deauthorization Limit!

I know most people don't care about this, but considering I am always buying new device and have 3-4 phones in my rotation at a time, this will end up being a problem. I checked just now and I'm already at my limit for this year, I guess that means I won't be able to use All Access on my Note 4 when I get it.

Does anyone else have All Access and anticipate this being an issue for you?

Yep, it sure will! Another reason I'm upset. Lots of people going to be looking for a new streaming app I think.

Umm just delete one of your phones you are not using at the moment. Once full again just delete another phone. Issue solved.

I fail to see how that solves the issue. If you flash a new ROM it counts as a new phone. So I have already deauthorized 4 phones this year. Since this policy is retroactive I cannot deauthorize any of the 10 devices currently on my account. About 4 of which are just from ROM flashing.

Doesn't work ....

I just went in to find I have old devices still registered and it won't let me unauthorised them (too many un authorisation message).

If this means goung forward I won't be able to access on newer devices I buy ... I will simply cancel my GP all access subscription.

Why Google make it difficult to unauthorise ? Simply reduce limit of authorisations if you want tighter control, but blocking us from unauthorising is utter utter bollox

For real man. I just signed up for a trial of Spotify Premium, see if it can be a possible replacement if that becomes necessary.

Here's a bit of an update from Android Police:

"*I talked to a Google rep (after a lengthy wait) who claims they can manually reset device authorizations. Not the deauthorization counter, but*allyour authorized devices. According to the Google rep, after you call and make the request it takes 24 hours for your device authorizations to be cleared out. Then you log back in with your current phones and tablets. Don't take it as gospel, but that's what I was told. I'll know if it worked tomorrow. Yes, this is very, very stupid. It prevents exactly zero abuses of the system and creates a new headache for users."

This is not really a viable workaround in my opinion but thought I'd share it.

This is not really a viable workaround in my opinion but thought I'd share it.

I read that and emailed google. Here is their response

Hello Philip,

Thank you for contacting Google.

Please note that we limit the number of times you can swap out new devices at the request of some of our music partners in an effort to limit abuse. We understand this has caused some issues for users who often deauthorize and reauthorize the same device, and we are currently re-implementing the solution in a way that works for our users and music partners.

I will have to get this to a higher level of support as I am unable to reset this.

Was doing my head in back in iTunes days as well where you had a limit per year (not that I remember the exact figure) but every time you send them an email, they would do that for you ..

Don't see that an issue really .. was annoying at first, but you get over it

I think 4 devices is more than enough for the average person. I have 2 phones, 1 table and a PC. If you have more than maybe its time to prioritize .

I have no problem with Google limiting the number of devices that Play Music will work on, however, they should limit the number of activations allowed not limit the number of deactivations.

Exactly. That's what some other services do. I don't see why you can deactivate as many times as you want.

So wait, maybe I didn't quite understand or perhaps its lack of paying attention when reading. I thought they were limiting the amount of devices you can use under one account. Meaning, once you hit 4 devices, you can't connect anymore, whether new or old, to that All Access account.

I never really thought about the limit of devices that can be used with Google Music. I was able to delete one of my devices from Google Music today and then add it back again. Not sure about others situations. Thanks

Try deleting more than 4 times and you will see. I have the 6 devices on my account and I actually only own 2 (Note 3 & G3) because I'm constantly flashing new ROM's.

The only people this penalises are honest customers. Especially if you are an Android enthusiast and buy a number of phones each year.

Fine limit me to having 4 devices, but don't limit me from de-activating ones I no longer use or have. And likewise, don't see the same 1 device as a different device when it gets software updated or restored, thereby creating a massive flaw in the already flawed system.....

I echo everyone else's comments, I'd prefer a smaller limit on authorized devices than restricting deauthorizations, that would solve my problem. I rarely even use play music on my tablets so if I had to prioritize to a smaller number of authorized devices I could eliminate those. However, the fact that this new policy prevents me from using their service when flashing ROMs and doing what I want with phones I pay a lot of money for, I'm not going to keep paying them money for a product that doesn't work for me. It's a shame, because All Access is a product I love.

Apparently Google is starting to detect devices via IMEI...quote from AP, "It isn't clear if Google is being smarter about the device list now, but some people are reporting it has started detecting devices by IMEI, which should ideally stop the dupes."

But that does nothing to help users like MacRumorUser who goes through devices like Sherman went through Georgia. Google is only allowing 4 deactivations per year.

Old devices dissapeared after pressing the X.

I hope so. It should be like iTunes. You can only authorize 5 different devices to play your media. If you get a 6th device then an earlier one needs to be deactivated.

I was able to deactivate all my stale devices with the exception of 1. I've heard they are no longer counting the same device twice after ROM flashing or resetting the phone. If 10 devices truly means 10 devices then I'll be more than OK.

Who here activates all access on more than 10 unique devices a year?
