Curious why few conversations are being had about how in Google’s recent I/O they had an entire segment about being able to control the ads you see with a “feature” called My Ad Center.

Feels odd how they made it sound socially acceptable to essentially track you. I do understand the premise for using Google’s free software by relying on this type of user data for monetary gain but the fact they’re so casual about it these days should be eye opening for everyone. My Ad Center is not for someone who gets paid by Google through something like Ad Sense, it’s a tool to help better track the everyday user and sell more stuff.

However, almost every article or video recapping the event doesn’t mention it and it seems like it should have way more visibility. Do people really want to customize their ads? Are we at the point in tech where we have no privacy options but at least we can customize the trash we get?

Imagine if My Ad Sense becomes socially acceptable and actually improves consumer sells, which it will because that’s the point, then what’s next? Businesses are going to see the boom in consumer purchases which Google with see as well then Google will charge businesses more for access to your data thus getting money/stronger and we’re supposed to assume changes made in My Ad Center actually work? Bruh!
