Google phone this year?

Even though the title of this article is "Move over iPhone" , It's my hunch that a lot of the things google is working on this supposed G-Phone, are really things that are going to appear on the iPhone, not a a piece of hardware made by google.

Our patent gurus have discovered an interesting patent filing from Google that could reveal the applications they are planning for the Google phone. Alternatively this technology could even debut in the iPhone when it is released in June.

Interesting concept. But aren't Apple and Google meant to be working closely together at the moment? If so, I can't see Google entering into such blatent competition...
