So I use Google Photos to share pictures of my daughter with a few family member that do not use Apple products. I have an album that I will add photos to so they can see. Now, rather than choose what photos Google can see and I can upload, they want access to the entire library or I cant use it at all. The album consist of maybe 100 photos that I have chosen and uploaded, they do NOT need access to over 10K photos & videos of mine.

I ran into this yesterday and immediately deleted the app from my phone.

They went OUT OF THEIR WAY to detect that "All Photos" wasn't selected, and the app refuses to work otherwise. That's extremely telling.

Google basically made it clear that they don't respect my privacy. Apple shouldn't allow this behavior in apps at all.

Well, to be fair, they laid out what was needed and gave you the choice. While the choice might not be a good one in the eyes of some, it seems that they aren't hiding something. Now, whether or not access to all photos is needed would be a different aspect of it worthy of understanding.

It's possible if not even likely that with the app mainly or at least often being used to backup photos that functionality won't really work well if really at all without access to all photos. That said, perhaps things can be redesigned where the backup is associated with a particular folder rather than all photos, but at the very least that would likely require a redesign of a good chunk of how it works, assuming that functionality is even possible (as Apple hasn't set up permissions to work like that), and it would change the fundamentals of backup as most typical users would just expect things to work as usual where everything is backed up and not some particular small section. So, not really saying something is necessarily is right or wrong, just that when it comes to that there's likely quite a bit more that is in play making this that much more complex.

Google and wonton secretive data slurping are synonymous.
The end game of every google product is data mining users and selling that info.
Wake Up! It's Google
