I’m not sure if it’s just me, or an iOS 11 related problem.

I’m using PB2. I have google photos set up to backup all the photos on my device as I have 100gb free due to being a local guide. I have approximately 70GB free.

Any photos I take with the camera on my iphone 7+ refuse to upload. This applies to Live Photo’s or normal photos. I get an error saying the file is too large or of an unknown type.

However any photos I save/download or screenshots upload fine and without issue.

Has anybody else experienced this, or is it just me? :)

Google Photos work flawlessly on both my iPhone and iPad, both on iOS 11 b3. But it worked on earlier betas too. Maybe reinstall the app?

Can confirm it, try to reinstall it!

Could it be related to the new HEIC format ?

I can't seem to be able to upload photos neither : when I select some photos and start upload, the progress bar is stuck at the beginning and never advance (no error message, though). Will try a reinstall.

7+ on DP3

I think you’re right - it must be due to the new format. I’ve reinstalled to no avail, several times and the problem persists. I’ll raise it with google.

Apart from the odd app crash, it seems to be running fine for me from Beta 1 to the current Beta 3. But, I'm running it on an iPhone 6 Plus which doesn't have the new HEIC format, meaning it could be the new format is the cause of the issue as been suggested.

I think you could confirm if it's the case by temporarily changing the format in Settings -> Camera -> Formats and see if it uploads any new pictures taken in non-HEIC format. I don't have a HEIC compatible device to check if there's an option.

Thanks - that does temporarily solve the issue.

I did a bit of googling and it seems it’s a known issue for the google photos team and they’re ‘working on it’.

Depends on how often you want to upload photos on Google Photos, but what I did is I transfered my photos on my Mac in JPG (there is an option in the Image Transfert utility to convert the photos to JPG or keep original) then uploaded them from my desktop browser.

I can survive with that method for some time.

Just a public service announcement:

Google Photos for iOS 11 has been updated to support HEIF and HEVC! I haven't given it a try yet, but this is good news for those who wanted to use the new formats but also have their media backed up to Google Photos.
