Google photos only syncing in foreground with active screen

Help! Google photos app version 1.0.1 only syncs when it is the active foreground item and the screen is on. This is true when connected to wifi, backgrounding is enables and plugged in. Any ideas?

It's probably due to the fact that in iOS there is a strict time limit to how long a tjird party app can run in the background with the screen off before iOS forces the app to suspend even with the option enabled.

these seems insane, i have 17000 photos to back up. is there no solution other than turing off auto lock?

Not that I know of it's a key battery saving feature of iOS and one of the big reasons why iOS generally gets a lot better battery duration when the phone is idle over the likes of Android which let's apps keep the device awake as long as the app wants. It's also why people say iOS does not have true multitasking.

I would suggest using a desktop or doing what you suggested.
