Google Photos vs iCloud Photo: the best?

what do you think that it's better?

iCloud Photo or Google Photo?

I see that google photo offer unlimited space, but it resize and reduce the quality of the photo (recompress).

Your idea?

Google wins for me, hands down.

Firstly, storage space: iCloud only offers 5GB, if that's up, it's up. With Google, you gat 15GB as standard, and that can be used to store full sized photos, or unlimited photos not taking up any of that space. If you choose this option, only photos with more that 16 megapixels are downsized, those less than that are kept the same.

The app: Google's can search with albums, geotags and just monuments it identifies, compared to iCloud which is considerably worse. Also Google has a much better web interface.

Google Photos free unlimited is a generous thing from Google and should not be considered a negative. If you want true backup, pay for it, just as you would with iCloud. Google's pricing is very good, better than iCloud pricing.

In terms of the product itself, Google Photos is far superior to iCloud photos.

I use iCloud photos and no issues. I pay for the 50GB of storage not bad for $0.99 a month. I don't think anything is free, you pay for it somehow. I even have my mom using it, and the fact a 60+ old woman isn't have issues, says a lot

I switched to Google Photos about a year ago so admittedly it's been a little while, but one of my biggest frustrations with iCloud photos was that it would sometimes get 'stuck' trying to upload new photos to the cloud. Not sure if it was related to me having a library of 100GB of photos or not, but that got old quick. No issues with Google Photos, and yet to see a compelling reason to try iCloud photos again. Plus, Google Photos search capabilities, animation and movie creation features, and animated gif support, amongst others, keep me enjoying GP.

A couple of days ago, i decide to upgrade my iCloud plan to the 50GB to backup all my photos and videos on my iMac.

So it take around 25GB on iCloud but now, on my iPhone 6 Plus 16GB, iCloud Photo Library took 5.6GB of space. I set up my iPhone to optimise iPhone storage.

Is there a way to keep my photos and videos on iCloud without taking all of this space on my iPhone ???

Can't help, but this is one of the many reasons I switched to Google Photos. 50GB library, on phone occupies 1.5GB.

iCloud Photo Library works fine for me under the 200GB plan. I have just over 35GB of full-res photos, not nearly enough for G-Photos to hold without paying extra for full-res support.

Indeed. However, in the case of iCloud, one can backup iOS devices under the iCloud umbrella of storage whereas Google can't.

IIRC, Apple's 200GB tier is a mere $1/mo higher than Google 100GB tier for 2x the storage.

The only thing holding me back from switching from IPL to google photos is the fact that I can't manually tag photos in google photos. The auto tags do a great job but there are some pics I want to tag with my own labels and the fact that I can't do that is a deal breaker (for now).

You can add comments to a photo which are indexed, so that could be used for tags as well. In IPL can that be done in iOS, or does it require the Mac app?

I use iCloud Photo Library to keep all me devices synced with images from iPhone and DSLR.
I use the free Google Photos on the Mac to auto upload everything as an extra backup and better search abilities.

I don't see any way to add a comment to a picture on the Google Photos web app. You need to use Photos on OSX to tag photos in IPL although I'm hoping the ability to do this come to iOS X.

Open a photo in GP, then tap the 'i' button. You'll see a description field where you can enter anything you want, including tags.

Yeah, definitely needs to get updated on the mother ship, but then works great. Super easy way to tag or annotate photos for easier finding later. And can be done via iOS app, which is awesome.

Does anybody (here) use both? iCloud has been serving me fine, but since hearing that Live Photos aren't captured I've been wanting to try Google Photos. Can I try it without interfering with iCloud?

Yes, they can both be used simultaneously without interference.
