Last years Google cases were awesome and turned the phones into the color phone you wish you had bought. At first my favorite was the Coral, then the Blue cover because I was torn with the 8 Pro in porcelain or bay blue and settled on the 8 Pro in porcelain (no regrets). But my favorite color out of all the cases became Mint. I love the look and feel of those cases. With the exception of the Coral which was only sold on Google's store, I got the other two from Amazon for 50% off. I got the coral case from Google and I used a $10 off coupon.

Ultimately my all time favorite Google cases were the fabric cases they used on the Pixel 4a and 4a 5G series.
The fabric case I had for my 4 XL is probably my favorite case.

After 24 hours with pixel 9 xl

Pros

Awesome design, and build quality

Feels close to perfect in the hand, and slides in a pocket nicely.

Improved battery for sure

Much improved modem from what I can tell. No cell issues so far.

Got very hot on setup, but other than that running cool.

Decent enough battery

Cons

Sloooow charging. 65w nice new GAN charger still barely gets it moving

Stil haven't been blown away with the cameras.

Speakers mid

Overall this thing is a pretty impressive YO

with regards to the charger, I think it needs a pd charger and cable. my 45w anker charges my galaxy tab s9 plus alot quicker than my 65w macbook charger for example

Also received and set up my Hazel P9XL. Data transfer from my S24+ took maybe 10 mins, very quick. As I was installing the screen protector I noticed a nearly invisible micro scratch maybe 1-2mm on the screen out of the box, when looking at it at an angle under bright light. With screen protector installed it is impossible to see. We'll see how my OCD traits deal with it and whether it is even worth the effort to exchange.

There's a noticeable difference between the 8 Pro and 9XL. Build quality is really, really nice. Screen is very bright, crisp, uniform, no pixel or tint issues. The ultrasonic fps is fantastic as is face unlock. So far everything is pretty smooth in terms of scrolling, much better than the 8 Pro. The speakers sound much better, clearer, louder than my 8 Pro, which sounded muffled all the time. Maybe that one was defective. The camera finally is set to a warmer setting by default which I'm very happy about. Much more true to life than my 8 Pro.

FPS works perfectly with amFilm tempered glass screen protector. The case is a Tauri "MagSafe" case.

I miss my video lock screen on my S24+, other than that this 9 Pro XL is making a fantastic impression on me. Have not tried anything AI related yet but will soon. Completely different feeling and experience using this phone compared to Pixels 7 and 8 Pro for me. I'll give it some time and play with it before trading in my S24+.

I would never accept a phone with a scratch. Instance return

That sucks. You ordered right after they went live didn't you?
Yup, I was thinking I would see it yesterday but I guess the line was not moving fast enough. I have dinner tonight so most likely if it comes late in the day I will have to wait to set up tomorrow

If the smaller 9 Pro was available I probably would've picked that one up just to try a smaller phone.

I've had all the large sizes Pixels, 6 Pro, 7 Pro, 8 Pro and now 9 Pro XL.

Showed my kids the new nine Pro XL this morning. They're both high schoolers and they're like holy Christmas Dad. That phone is gigantic.

My youngest son. He's still rocking the old school pixel 5 and my daughter has the regular size pixel 6. I asked him would you want a phone like this and they're like no thanks. Not that large. But I get it there younger in a smaller hands than me.

But for some reason I wouldn't mind just giving it a shot a smaller phone for once. I haven't had a "small sized phone in years.

I know it's not a true comparison, but here's a case for my wife's pixel 8 next to my pixel 9 Pro XL without a case.

I have the P8 and P8P and by far the P8P gets the most use because of the screen size. It's still portable enough to put in my back pocket. That's why I did not consider the P9 because for content purposes, the added screen size helps.

Yeah knowing me I'd instant regret the smaller phone LOL.

Everytime I get a new phone it's always the bigger one. Even the S24 Ultra, there was no way I was getting the S24+ or something instead.

from empty to 70% is half an hour with a PD charger, then it slows down to protect the battery. mine will charge overnight on a pixel stand anyway
I came across an article yesterday that says, Google quietly implemented a battery feature probably going back to A11 or A12 that allows the battery to only charge to 80% even though it shows 100% charge on the screen. This was to preserve the health of the battery and once it gets to a certain point, it begins to trickle charge.

Agreed, I would exchange it. These phones cost too much for that to be on the screen already. It's one thing if I put the scratch on the screen, it's totally different if I received it that way. And this early on you would 100% be guaranteed a brand new phone.

For those looking for a nice case with "high grip levels" there's the Ringke case. I bought one in dark green and it has a soft rubber backing but textured. It kinda feels like a basketball in the hand.

Quite a few EU/UK Pixel owners disappointed that the cool AI etc stuff is not included on their phones, typical Google = US (same as Apple).
What's not included?

I've got the one year trial activated via Google One and after a restart, Gemini live is now available. I had to change default language to US to get the high quality voices though.

Been playing with re-imagine and "add me" with no problems.
