Meh, probably more internal than external and won't change much for the public or Google brand
Will likely allow for more expansion into other areas without diluting the Google brand along the way

The name of a holding company is irrelevant. There are a number of companies that market themselves under a different name than their actual corporate name. Google will still be there, but Alphabet will handle other endeavors.

So legally was Google renamed Alphabet, and then a new company called Google was named as a subsidiary? Since the stock now reverts to Alphabet.

That is what I took from all of this also. They will now be able to venture into other areas, maybe not even computer or software, and put it under a different title/label/company name. Or bringing the Google brand down, if you will, if the company or product tanks.
