Google says it will stop selling ads based on people's browsing histories

This sounds great for Google to get more revenue from advertisers by making it so they can only get the ad tracking from Google because advertisers won't be able to do it on their own anymore with third-party cookies that were cutting Google out of a share of the profits.
 
Why rely on pesky browser cookies when you make the browser anyway and have convinced a good portion of the population to sign in with an account you control.

Until Google finds some non-advertising cash cow, always assume their actions are designed to sell more ads somehow. Anything less is naivety.
 
Unfortunately, Google is everywhere. Most apps annoyingly use Google analytics.

Even those of us that avoid Google search (DDG), Google Maps (Here WeGo), Google documents, we use YouTube (no real other option), and get exposed via many of the apps we use.
