Google services and cell standby are using the most battery (galaxy note 3)

Anyone have a fix for this? I don't even have my note 3 activated right now. I'm going back and forth between the note and my old iPhone 5 just for kicks.

A few days ago, I did a Google search for how to fix the Google services battery drain, basically by removing and reinstalling google maps updates. Seemed to work for a couple days, now it's doing it again.

As far as the cell standby, I don't understand why that would be using any battery at all. It has used 20% so far. I even have mobile data turned off so it doesn't look for service since the phone is deactivated right now.

If you've got a SIM in the phone it's going to use lots of power constantly trying to register it on the network: Turning cell data off won't affect that as it still leaves the phone radio on. You need to go into airplane mode then turn GPS and WiFi back on

My note 3 battery? I got around 6-7 hours on screen time last time I had it activated and used it for a full day.

You do know Google Services has an update rolling out right now to address this very issue? Search my threads from the last few days for the link to download the apk.

Awesome! I'll check it out. Didn't know about it. Is it just a website download or is it a pushed ota update?

Google Location Services is very heavy handed. As Lloydbm41 points out there is a new Google Play Services update rolling out which is meant to address some of the excessive usage of Google Location Services.

The easiest way to stop / reduce GLS eating up your battery is to
1) Turn off Google Now 2) Turn off Location History in Google Settings.

If you want to use Google Now basically it's a case of put up with it and hope that Google keeps improving it's excessive use / polling of location.

With EVERY Android phone I have used in 2013 ( a lot of them ) all have same issue when Google Now & Location History are turned on. Consuming anywhere around 20-30% more battery on a daily usage when enabled, over them being disabled and turned off.

The Note 3 big battery affords me the luxury of not worrying about it - but in all honesty for me Google provide very little extra info in Google Now other than weather here and so there is no real benefit with it on for me personally - but at least as I say the Note 3 just gives me the luxury without killing my phone before night time.

I personally have had google + using between 6-10% of my battery too for why I don't understand as i have backup off. It's not a major issue though as i get 1 day of battery everyday pretty much without fail and with two spare batteries it's not something to worry about really...i leave my phone on 50% brightness too.

think with this phone worrying about battery life is a thing of the past.

Wow! I'm getting about 2 days...and thats with some movie watching as well as web browsing, emails, Line etc....

IME 6-7 hours screen on time is about right for the Note 3.

Sure you can push it longer reducing brightness, turning off bits and pieces, but as a general rule you should get about 6-7 hours without messing about.

you keep auto +5 on all the time? what is the screen brightness on if you have auto off? does it matter and does it affect the overall brightness at all?

I will do that and have the same auto brightness on and see if my on screen time is better. not that it's bad it's good but if i can get better on screen time i will try it.

Question for you...which nano-sim to micro-sim adapter do you use? I've seen them on eBay and and Walmart, but I wanted to make sure I got one that fit right and held it securely. Got a recommendation?

I just kept the iPhone SIM card in the iPhone and the note came with its own new SIM card. All I have to do is go on Verizon's website and enter the meid I want to activate and it's done it about 30 seconds.
