So I've decided to go prepaid. After looking at the straight talk iphone since it uses verizon towers and only verizon gets service in my area, I looked at the price. It's $450 JUST FOR AN iPhone 4! So I looked into google voice. I was thinking of buying an unlocked android and using a straight talk sim. Here's my question, since I don't get AT&T or tmobile service at my house but I do at school, would I be able to use my google voice for texting and calling and when I'm not home have the google voice number forward to my phone so people use my google voice number to call and text and I can send and place outgoing calls and texts through google voice? So that way no one ever needs the number straight talk assigns me? Also would google voice use data or minutes when I call and receive calls? I know that google voice texting will use my data. Thanks!

You can have Google Voice ring any phone you want when someone calls you. I have mine ring my desk phone at work and my cell phone. As for minutes usage, yes it will use minutes.

If it has a phone number it can be added to the list of phones that ring when someone calls. As for getting text messages, you can receive texts from your GV number but you may not be able to reply using your GV number as the "From". If you have a phone that has a GV app you should be able to text both ways with the GV number.
