Google vs iCloud when having iPhone and Android

Guys,
I try to keep it simple. I'm mainly an Apple user (macbook, iphone, ipad) but recently I received an Android phone (for work). It usually happens that I modify my contacts or calendar on my iPhone as well as on my Android phone.

I want to keep the same contacts and calendar on both devices. I looked for to sync iCloud with my google account. I got my google contacts on my iphone and Macbook via cardDav service. But, it seems that I got only a second list for my google contacts in the contact app and it's not sync with the icloud list. I mean modifying one list does not modify the other one.

It seems there is no way to keep google contacts and iCloud synchronized.

Finally, I decided to cancel iCloud (for contacts and Calendar) on my iDevices and use only my google account as the sync cloud service. The advantage is that google work as well as on iDevices and Android phones.

My question : is it the right solution to keep my both phones synchronized ?
PS: I dont want to use any third party application to sync icloud and google.

If it works for you, its the right solution. I'm not trying to sound coy but rather if you developed a working methodology that you're happy with, then its the right one for you

I agree with maflynn. Its OK if it works for you.

On the other hand, my experience was not good. Last year I had a macbook (Snow Leopard) and an HTC One V, and the only way was to go with google calendar and contacts. The calendar was OK, it just added another calendar, which I didn't mind. But syncing contacts was a nightmare. Google kept on adding duplicates and messing up the first and last names. And the Contacts and SMS apps on the HTC would hang very often.

I switched to an iPhone 4s last month, and am on iCloud with my MBP (Mountain Lion) and all is well now.

I found is that if you're on the same platform, i.e., apple products then the iOS device works exceedingly well and goes along with the "just works" mantra.

If you introduce an android product it certainly complicates matters but that doesn't mean its not workable. I prefer the simplicity and ease of use so I stick with iCloud and iOS.

The inverse certainly can be said that if you're completely on google products trying to sync those with your mac or iOS products can also be be a tad complicated as well. Its not that apple is the only company that can do this, but rather its always easier working within the platform then adding something a bit different.
