Google Wave Dead

i used it with a number of friends. it plain sucked tbh. i have no idea how they thought that it would be usable in a real world situation!!
I got accepted into the beta a long time ago, but I only ever used it with the only other friend I had that was also in the beta so it was kinda lame after the first day or two...definitely after the first week.
I am definitely looking forward to Google's take on facebook though.

That was almost my situation exactly. It seems like Google has engineers with tunnel vision and little interest or skill in UI. Google billed it as "email if email was invented in 2009." Yeah, that's not grandiose at all

dont get me wrong, i can see its implementations in a business sense of things - using IM based messages combined with the normal "email" feel is a pretty smart way to do it. it certainly is flexible - but i didnt like the live typing update thingo, that just felt wierd and i found myself watching what the other user was typing.
oh, and btw, google wave IS NOT flexible with >3 users. its disgusting.

Can't say I was surprised when I heard about this. It seemed like one of those "lets make a new web 2.0 app and we'll decide how to market it later" things.
Actually, it is great that Google made the code open-source, so ordinary folks can develop it. Who knows, one day somebody might come up with a commercial version that solves the problems and in a new form, the application part of it might become a success. After all, there were good ideas behind it.
I was unaware that they had released the source code. That is kinda cool, although it is not really my area of interest.

I agree. Google is horrible at design; They're a company made entirely of engineers, and almost no grasp of visuals.
It's about time Wave got yanked.
Mixed news.. There was some cross-over between Wave and our company's product, so (as a general rule) it's nice not to have Google as competition!
It seems to me there's a simple rule of thumb, which Wave seems to fail: If you can't describe your product well in just one short, simple sentence, you haven't "got it".

Wave could have been great, but to keep under Beta wraps so long really hurt it. There was nobody to Wave with. Why beg them to sign up for Wave and wait a few weeks for an invitation, when you could just email, text or call the person? I do think a lot of the ideas behind Wave will be used by folks for many years to come. Wave just wasn't the right platform at the right time, but I'd wager it's tech will live on.
The only thing that really bothered me about Wave was the ability to change someone else's text without permission. I was on a couple of large Waves and several of my posts were altered or deleted without my knowing. At the time, it really pissed me off and I stopped using it. Never went back...
