Without Apple supporting RCS and without end-to-end encryption, RCS is largely dead on arrival.
So all the Iphone users that send Green Bubble msg's won't want a better service for thier money

It's not like sms is already encrypted on an Iphone and given most USA and Australian users already pay for unlimited sms you may as well get something for your included unlimited txt bundle

I agree it would be better if it's encrypted end to end but lets wait and see

It’s not about iPhone users not wanting a better service for their money; it’s about Apple not wanting to adopt RCS (for now?). iPhone users have no control over whether Apple does or doesn’t adopt RCS.

Then maybe you wish to rephrase your original post re DOA needs to be put into the context you mean ie specifically for Iphone users :)

Besides voting with your wallet seems to work quite often :D

There’s nothing that I need to rephrase. RCS is DOA. Europe and Asia rarely if ever use SMS (they use WhatsApp, WeChat, Line, etc. instead—there’s plenty about this if you Google it), so RCS won’t matter to them. Americans and Canadians are largely the ones who still use SMS, but it won’t matter significantly since the RCS rollout has been so fragmented (so, even many Android-to-Android texting won’t be utilizing RCS) and RCS won’t work when Android users text iPhone users.

Whilst plenty of generalizations there is trends as you note however for enterprise and other business use SMS still dominates and continues to grow. RCS is likely to enhance this further and is far from dead :)

When using an Android phone, I use regular sms all the time and so do plenty of others I know.

If I had an android phone I’d like to send pictures/videos of my children to my husband and other relatives on android without getting charged 55p for each item. I currently use WhatsApp but it compresses is everything.

Try sending image as a document in whatsapp, it will go at full res :)

I’m aware that many use other messaging apps. My point was that the above poster suggesting people rarely if ever use sms is wrong and I don’t think RCS is DOA in Europe. If I want to send a quick message, regular text is fine (I won’t ever send pics, I keep my bills to the minimum). So if I can send a high quality picture message like on iPhone, great.

Never even thought about the 2FA I use. Further goes to show sms is far from dead.

Sorry I actually meant that I’d like to use something like RCS and not get charged to send media.

You wont it will use your data plan not like sms/mms that uses cellar charges :)

"So what features should we expect to see on Chat? Well, it’s going to look a lot like iMessage and other messaging apps. It’s a more interactive protocol that allows you to start group chats, send video and audio messages, and send high-resolution images. You’ll also be able to receive read receipts and even see when someone is replying to your message in real time.

In addition to all of the features you’d expect on a messaging app, it looks like Chat will have some nice surprises in store. Google has been working with businesses to add helpful features to Chat to improve communication. For example, Chat will be able to send live updates about upcoming trips, boarding passes, and even allow you to select your seat from within the Android Messages app.

Instead of using a cellular connection, Chat will rely on your data connection. It’s also hardware agnostic, meaning it will work across multiple devices. And while Chat could work on iOS, Apple has yet to announce if its phones will support the protocol.
