I am married to Apple Ecosystem and will remain committed to it for years to come. My purpose of creating this thread is not to troll or complain about Apple

But after reading this article I have to agree that Google Won AI war with Pixel 8. Is there a possibility that Apple can bring those massive AI features to iPhone 15 Pro Max with OS update, or does it need a separate dedicated chip for those AI features?

I know A17 Pro is most advanced mobile CPU, in that can blow G3 and Eurinyx out of water.

You can play AAA game in pro 15 with $49.9 per game lol xd Apple doesn’t sell you free unlimited AI stuff

I believe that going forward the name of the game is AI. With AI the phone becomes a true virtual assistant. For most (all?) people it's the only device that has access to all of your life: contacts, email, bank accounts, health data, calendar, etc.

Imagine having a phone that can:
  • Summarize documents and emails and help you draft responses
  • Find time for 5 people to schedule a meeting
  • Help you make food choices by looking at what you're eating and keeping track
  • Make AI edits to your photos
  • AI powered search
Before you jump and say that all of these are available as apps, the winner will be the company that integrates these at the OS level.

Instead of focusing on making the iPhone a better tool, Apple releases the worst update in iPhone history.

While we're on this topic, I believe the real future iPhone killer is the Apple Watch. If I can get AI on my watch, I don't need the phone anymore. I can get everything done talking to my watch. It's so close to being an iPhone replacement already.

It‘s not going to happen for Apple. A powerful AI would make alot of 3rd party apps obsolete and thus Apple would loose revenue they generate from the App Store.

Furthermore, Apple doesn‘t have the AI expertise like Google has, nor does Apple have the extensive datasets that Google has to train their models on. So Apple has already lost this race before it even started.

Maybe the future would be to have both a Google phone and an iPhone at the same time to get the best of both worlds.

Apple may have lost the early battle in the AI race, but it's still possible for them to win the war. Google released its Bard AI too early and faced negative consequences, however, I have to admit that Google has made great strides on the Pixel 8 with the help of AI. I hope that Apple is just taking its time to develop its AI properly to avoid the same fate. In the AI race, more training data does not always mean better AI.

Apple might not have the expertise but being 2 trillion $$ they can buy or recruit those expertise. At least Apple can implement AI with its camera and Siri, that won't make apps obsolete

Apple is just behind on AI, look at Siri. Apple’s big bet was AR - let’s see how that turns out

This “war” is continuous, I would rather say Google have won this battle but the war is yet to conclude.
Google have been winning the AI battles yearly and rightly so given how much more data they harvest across all platforms (Microsoft, Apple ecosystem, Google ecosystem, Sony etc etc…)

I am not sure if Apple will be able to match up for years to come. If Apple want to truly beat Google they may need to partner with Google first and gain access to the data Google has at some sort of licensing fee, or partner with some other big data firms.

Google are truly playing to their strengths with the Pixel’s AI and ML focus, they are putting a lot of the data they get from us to great use.

Apple is a 2 trillion $ company. It shouldn't be a big deal for Apple to hire a team of experts, who can reverse engineer this future and then can replicate it with latest generation of iPhones.

Not sure they are part of a war, if they are just watching from the sidelines 😉

I think you’re severely underestimating what it takes to develop AI. Not that Apple can’t do it, but from everything I’ve seen they are years behind Google.

All the big tech companies are working on improving their software - that's really where the action is now.

Apple already laid the Ai groundwork in its hardware, with a neural engine integrated in chips of recent years.

Doesn't seem that Google is much, if any, ahead in that respect - especially from a fanboy Android Central rant.
