EDIT: Hm, MR doesn't do GIFs? Strange, cause the GIF plays when I'm editing the post, but won't show in the actual posting. Weird. Anyway... here's a video:

I'm not sold by this yet, as it still looks and sounds very experimental. But it has interesting implications for the future of smartphones and modularity.

The Verge has a similar article, and they say a consumer version could be ready by 2017.

Google is building its own consumer Android phone:
Project Ara grows up, and into something much more important

Project Ara has been experimental since 2011. Getting developer units out there now, I would hope it is getting close to production.

Between Samsung's smartphone that folds out into a tablet and Google's Ara, 2017 is going to be an interesting year in new mobile tech.

Yup, it's go time. LOL

Seriously I am not buying that is a mint if that was the script. No one stores one mint. LOL.

But on the topic of Ara....seems this is modular like LG G5 "Friends" now. When this project was last visited, you could swap out the memory and SOC. THAT would be killer. This is cool, but not as amazing as the concept (as usual).

I always wanted to try the NexPaq cases to see how good modular is. But they haven't made any for the S7 edge yet. Wish I knew about them when I first got the S6 edge.

Very intrigued by the concept but at this point it looks like component sizes dictate that it's going to be a pretty damn big phone. I realize it's a developer version but that thing's a brick.
