Google's Voice-Enabled Search for iPhone Now Available

Google's seems to have released an update to their Googile Mobile App, but it is not showing up in the App Store Yet. A quick search on Lifehacker . com will show this.

The comments say you must first delete it off the computer and redownload, and the app should then have the voice-recognition.

EDIT: Very nice...is there a way to search contacts through it w/o it going to Google? I guess I need to play around with that some.

Overall a tremendous upgrade that makes searching a bit easier!

Did you read my original post? It seems as though the update has not been "pushed" out yet... You have to uninstall and then redownload the Google Mobile App, and it will then automagically be there!

You can't voice search for contacts but if you type a contact name into search it brings them up.

This is how mine is working so far too, but it doesn't make much sense why voice wouldn't work for this...

Ok i deinstalled it and re-installed it and it's the new version now. Strange it didn't update it via updater.

I must say i'm not yet so impressed with it's accuracy at all. I've tested about 6 things so far (nothing too complicated) and the only thing it really understood was when i said "Google".

i was excited about this but you cant even search with voice for contacts. on top of that in the video it shows one click calling the contact through the search but when i search i have to click the contact, which brings up the contact and then i have to click the number as well.

Oh no. I can't believe google still didn't implement safari in it's app like most of the cool apps outthere.

It still takes you to the external safari and if you want to access the other google tools.

I agree. This is very annoying, as when you are done in Safari you have to go back and open your Google app again. I believe Google will continue making great updates to this over time, as it is only at "version 0.1.414"

Well i hope there will be enough people demanding this. Hopefully they do it for the next update.

Another annoying issue is that there's no way to hide search history unless to delete it everytime after you finished using it.

I wish it wouldn't show the search history when you start the app. What if someone else plays with my iphone and see's i've tested the voice-feature with "how big is my penis"?

Well you just said it in a public forum in a pretty popular thread for views, so I don't think it matters anymore if someone uses your phone and sees it.

You can however change it to open up on "Apps" instead in the settings menu. But your history is still saved when you click on the search tab.

Agh, couldn't understand my username. The spelling was right, but there was a space inbetween name and numbers. Screwed up everything!

Google's Voice-Enabled Search for iPhone Now Available



Lifehacker reports that Google's new Voice-Enabled Search application is now live in the App Store (sort of).

The new application is actually an update to Google's existing Google Mobile Application that is already available in the App Store. The version update adds Voice-Enabled search which was widely reported last week.

Users of the free application .... can place the phone to their ear and ask virtually any question, like “Where’s the nearest Starbucks?” or “How tall is Mount Everest?” The sound is converted to a digital file and sent to Google’s servers, which try to determine the words spoken and pass them along to the Google search engine.

While the new version has not yet propagated to the App Store's update notification service, when users download the application, they are given the new version. iPhone users who already have the Google Mobile Application installed will have to delete the application and re-download it to get the new version at this time.
