GoogleSync Email doesnt show up as notification

I have mail set up to notify me via banner and thru the notification center.

However, if i have googlesync set up for my email thru the google sync exchange, the notifcation doesnt work. If i set up my gmail account normally on the iphone, notifications work, but then push doesnt work...

All i want is to use gmail thru googlesync, and have notifications. any help?
