i was thinking about selling mine, but instead of that got 1 more 16gb 3gs for wife from bestbuy for just 49.99, luckily it has 359.3 bootrom and 3.1.2 so safe for untethered jb and unlock.

planning to cancel the contract after 1 month and just use with att prepaid, as she will just use wifi for internet and stuff.. i also did some search and there are profiles available that disables data(3g/edge) to avoid unnecessary data usage charges

just wanted to let everyone know that if you want to jb/unlock, then refurb is the best bet as you can still get old bootrom and 3.1.2

So wait, best buy has referbs for 49.99 and there are no contracts involved? o.o

so best buy has a deal for silver rewards member, 16gb for 49.99 and 32gb for 149.99, obviously the refurb ones and with the 2 yr contract...but gonna cancel it and wife will use it with att prepaid so she does not have to worry about jb.

but as it with 359.3 i can always jb later if i want to.. obviously with the caveat of not upgrading to 3.1.3, actually to avoid this i dont hook up my iphone to itunes at all..

I fail to see how a 2 year contract is imidiately obvious.

Not everyone lives in the USA. We have 3 year terms for iphones here.

And seing as he said he was going to cancel after one month, i thought it was a no terms contract that allows you to cancel at no aditional cost. If the cost to cacnel the plan is a lot, I fail to see how the 49.99 for the referb is worth it. If i were to cancel my contract with 2 years left in it, it would cost me nearly 500 dollars just to do so, bringing the cost up to 550 anyway.

2 or 3 year contract beside the point. Since almost no iPhones sold at reduced prices are with "a no terms contract that allows you to cancel at no additional cost" seems like a illogical assumption to make. You gotta pay the subsidy to compensate for the low out the door price, either with a early termination fee or by the month on a 2 or 3 year contract.
