Got 27" iMac C2D Refurb - Yellow bell shaped area

So I've wondered what exactly this yellow screen issue looked like.

Well my wife's 27" C2D refurb showed today and it has a very evident bell curve shaped yellow area along the bottom to the middle of the screen.

Only can tell on white/grey screens. Sucks because the display is fantastic.

She is going to work with and see but we installed the firmware update which from what I can tell just attempted to shift the entire screen a few points toward yellow but we can still see it.

I've heard the whole 'Its an IPS thing', fine Apple decided to sell a monitor with a tint issue that is not uniform across all their production.

How evident is the problem on other Mac's? I don't need a test website or screen, I can see it even during the boot up screen.

If the effected percentage is small then a replacement might resolve the issue but I don't want to send/receive if the chances of getting a good one is not high.

I suspect, that your "refurb" is a unit returned by somebody on the yellow tinge issue and then sent to somebody else (you) without actually any "refurbishing" being done. It makes business sense, since it is a lot simpler and cheaper this way and in the end you may actually keep the unit. Many reports in the past would suggest this scenario ("What, yellow tinge? I thought refurb units have been tested!"). As per yellow tinge THIS is the most comprehensive case source.

Now that I've spent the day using it this is very frustrating.

The top of the monitor looks fantastic but this yellow area is bothersome. It is so faint but there.

We went this route because of the all in one but I'm starting to think the MB Pro w/ the HP ZR30W might be the better choice.

I adjusted the screen angle slightly and its better.

Have to see if she notices. I had planned on a 27" CD for me because of the integrated power cords for the MB Pro but the 30" HP might get a closer look.

Thanks for the info too, after looking at that thread I'd rate mine as pretty bad, it is not a dark yellow, it's a pale shade which actually is more annoying because its so close to being good but its easily the middle 30 percent of the screen.

Just return it for an exchange.

Return it ... I plan to buy refurb and it's what I would do.... can't live with an annoying screen....
