I recently traded in my iPad 3 that I purchased in 2012 for an estimated $5.00 Apple gift card - and that was after answering all the questions in the best possible light (no damage to the iPad, everything works, etc. . . . and it was all true). So I was pleasantly surprised today to receive an email that I was getting a $30.00 Apple Gift card for my trade-in ? Not sure if they purposely lowball offers due to people frequently overstating their device's condition (to avoid complaints when the actual estimate is less, even though it was the customer's fault for not being accurate) or what, but I'm not complaining! Yes, I know I probably could've gotten more for it selling it on my own, but I didn't want to deal with that for such an old device. I'm actually surprised to see how much some of these are listed for on eBay, being that it's a 9 year old tablet (of course then you have shipping costs + eBay's commission subtracted from that). Has this happened to anyone else with a trade-in? Normally you only hear stories about being offered lower than estimated, not more.

Very interesting. I have not heard of people receiving more than the estimate on their trade-ins. Good to know.

Apple doesn't lowball the trade-in offers, but it makes me wonder if there had been an error in its database for that model. Just a guess they likely don't get high volume of that model, but once received yours, realized something was wrong with the offer. Congrats on getting more for it!

Apple is still cheap on trade-ins when Samsung gave me $250 trade-in on an iPad 2.

And how long ago was that?

Four months ago but just checked and it's still showing $250 trade-in. Have iPad 1 that I'll likely use the $250 trade-in again towards the next Galaxy Tab S8 series if it has RNDA2 graphics.

Just checked for my kids iPad 6th gens and the estimate was $195 for those. Way higher than I expected, we’ll see if the in-store offer is the same this weekend.
