Got a ? about fcp and ps.

morning all:

dont know it this it the right place for this question but here we go.i have a ti400 pb and i was looking to learn photoshop and fcp. what verison should i get for this? since its and older pb i dont think i should get the latest verison.what do you guys think?i need little direction here thanks.

For Final Cut, I wouldn't get anything later than version 3, as 4 and 5 both are processor and RAM heavy (5 won't even run well in my medium-heavy modded Sawtooth). For Photoshop, you're probably all right with 7, but it will be sluggish; 8 (cs) and 9 (cs2) will probably work but so painfully slowly that you'll want to kill yourself. If you want to go older with Photoshop, I advise skipping 6 altogether and jumping back to 5.5; the only real advancements with 6 were web-related (unless they added the vector features, but I think that was 7), and 5.5 takes up less hard drive space and will run faster...

So, long story short:

Probably capable of running CS or CS2 for Photoshop and FC4, but I recommend PS7 and FC3.

I am totally anti-piracy, although would like to do similar things to find out what version ofdreamweaver, flash, and cs/cs2 on my not so tricked out mac mini with only 512MB RAM. Of course, if I did do this, I wouldn't keep the apps. Would this be really bad? Could I get sued?

EDIT: Does Adobe or anyone else have a site in which you can legally download demos of older apps? That would feel a lot better. For that matter, are any older products just freeware because they're so old? I could deal with PS 6 or 7.

I honestly do not believe it is piracy if you delete and purchase the software (or purchase a license for the software). I run a record label, and I don't think checking out our albums on bittorrent or whatever is bad; listen and decide if you like it. We just do our best to expose the bands enough so that you don't have to do that to begin with. Point is, I don't think checking something out is theft, and in fact I think checking software against your hardware is smart. That said, I don't actually do it myself, the only thing I download are episodes of MST3K...
