Hey guys,
I just got a Mac Pro 1,1 from an online trade.
I say, it works fine and is in mint condition for it's age.

Specs:
OSX Yosemite v. 10.10.5
x2 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon (That's also going to be replaced with x2 4 Core Xeons with a total of 8 Cores)
6 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM (That's going to be 32GB soon)
640GB Original Mac Hard Drive (Going to be x2 SSDs and 1 5 or 6TB HDD.)
But... Here's where my brain crashes.
The graphics card is not an original one or (what I believe) is unsupported as I cannot get drivers for it what so ever.
It's a Nvidia NVS 310 512 MB GPU. It can power x2 Monitors over Display port. It appears to go for $100 on Amazon.

As the system boots for the first 20-30 seconds... I get a black screen!
I want to use this machine with windows and OSX at the same time, I already have a second hard drive in with windows installed. I'd like to boot from it but I bloody can't!
In fact, I can't do any of these (The ones that require me to use the mouse and keys at startup etc.)
https://support.apple.com/en-ae/HT201255

I want to use startup manager to select the windows hard drive... But I can't because the screen is completely black!

I was also considering doing a reinstall, but guess what? I CAN'T!

I understand that the EFI on this is 32bit or something but I don't see how this stops me from seeing the system boot.

I'll be happy to give more information, just ask away as this frustrates me a lot.
Hopefully I can get this solved once and for all!

Welcome to the forum.

You are going to need a video card that has OSX video drivers available for it.

There are a number of threads here that discuss 1,1s and the video cards that will work with it. Peruse the threads and you should be able to find what you need.

Or you can simply go to macvidcards.com and get a card that will work with your new (to you) Mac Pro.

And again, welcome to the ranks of the Mac Pro owners.

Hey,
I appreciate the response.

I see on macvidcards.com they have recommended cards for certain Mac Pros. I want to get this http://www.macvidcards.com/store/p78/Nvidia_GTX_960_2_GB_and_4_GB.html
Although it's recommended for
  • Mac Pro Model 3,1, 4,1 or 5,1

Even if I shove it into my 1,1 it should not be an issue, right?

Yeah I see what you mean, but all of the 1,1 GPUs are sold out. That's why I was asking if the others would work.

ATI 4870's most can be flashed for efi boot if money is no option HD 7950's can be had in pc versions for about 100 dollars stick to the reference cards and flashing won't be an issue. good luck
