I started a new job recently and decided to pick up a previous gen Macbook Pro on Amazon to use for work...that is until I got it and fell in love :) I decided that a Macbook Air would be the best choice for the job, as I travel quite a bit and like to keep my bag light. I was originally going to purchase a refurb on Apple's site, but found a nearly new one on Craigslist w/Superdrive and warranty good through August for $1000. The battery only had 30 cycles on it, everything original was included and the Superdrive was brand new...I jumped on the deal and don't regret it at all. Overall about a 20% savings between taxes and the Superdrive compared to Apple's site.

I was originally looking at smaller laptop PCs, but couldn't find anything that didn't include Vista and I'm not paying for something I don't intend to use. Netbooks were out of the equation because I'm 6'4" and my hands aren't compatible with those keyboards. I think it's a great little device for what I need to do, but it's definitely not made to be a primary machine. I can understand people complaining about it being slow and having a small hard drive, but it's far better than a netbook and it's not meant to be a powerhouse.

I'm actually more excited about this than my MBP due to the coolness factor :D Next step is to order an Incase sleeve and finish getting my apps loaded. I hope everyone else is enjoying theirs as much as I am!

Congratulations!!! You are right, the "cool" factor is addicting. I use my MBA more than my other laptops (PC's)

Congrats on your MBA! Nice choice! You will definitely enjoy every aspect on your new laptop!

I've tried out the netbooks too. It wasn't for me either, and I'm just 5' 2"! The netbooks felt crampy to me and with bad eyesight, the small screen didn't help at all either.

So the MBA was the right choice for me, and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Good luck, and enjoy! :)

I ordered a Dell Mini 9 the day they were released with the intent of running Ubuntu on it because Ubuntu can be made to look as nice a Mac OSX. Once I actually went to Best Buy and saw really how small a 8.9" netbook is I came home and canceled the order. After thinking it over I decided to just buy a Mac and the Air fit the bill perfectly. I'm 6'4" and could barely type on the netbook.

The seller just told me he has an incase sleeve he's going to drop off today, saved me another $40 or so with shipping.

The Dell Mini 9 is a netbook I really wanted to like, but those little keyboards are a turn off. I think even for just geeking around those may be too small. Some of the Vaios are really nice, but they are over 2x the weight of the Air. I also prefer the the Air doesn't have an optical drive installed, how often does anyone install programs off of physical media these days?
