I just got this machine for my wife from Amazon.com. The 2.4GHz 24" iMac with 1GB RAM and 320GB HDD. $1794 before $100 rebate. An additional 2GB Crucial RAM for $58 as well. All of this with free 2-day UPS shipping with Amazon Prime.

It appears Amazon.com has recent stock as mine has a week 52 build of 2007. No issues with screen brightness or uniformity and no over-heating (so far). I had low expectations, but its a great machine and the glass screen actually protects against kids ruining the LCD. I got used to the new keyboard very quickly too.

My wife needed a new computer now, and I was going to get the Dell XPS 420, but I recently got some high-end Dell's with Vista at work and the OS is a turd.
The hardware is quite good, but the OS really ruins the machine. The wife didn't know about me ordering the iMac, but was pleasantly surprised, but still no sex for me. :( And I even got MS Office for her too!

Can anyone recommend which external hard drive I should use for backups with Time Machine?

That's funny... when I spend thousands without telling my wife, I don't get sex either...

They're just so unreasonable... :)

Did the iMac come with Leopard installed? I saw when I was looking that they only listed Tiger in the description.

Staples has a deal on this week... 320GB Western Digital external for $119 (regular $179). I picked one up today and it works amazing. It's very fast too!

The iMac came with Leopard installed. It was built during the last week of December 2007 in Shanghai, China.

IF I get a 1TB external HDD could I use it with my Mac Pro networked to the iMac? Or is it only one external HDD tied to one Mac using Time Machine?

Maybe I'll get lucky when I get my wife an iPhone!

Congrats on ur iMac. I just got mine about 3 weeks ago. I am in love with it. It just simply WORKS. As Ive been a PC user all my life, the deciding factor was the fact that I could run Windows XP within Mac OS.

Im running with VM Fusion.. works very nicely. Added more ram and it will became very snappy with multiple applications running.

I dont think I will buy another PC since Vista was a huge turn-off for me. (except my office computers has to be PC)

I've been a Unix user for the past 25 years and Windows user since 1990, and my first Mac was a Mac Pro, so the transition from Windows was easy.

The hardware from Dell, particularly the XPS series, is quite good and they use Foxconn as a supplier like Apple. What sucks is the Windows OS. I hope that one day Dell could sell Mac OS X, but until then I am phasing out all of the PC machines in my house with Macs.
