Granted mine hasn't had any issues yet (knock on wood), the staining develops over time as well as some of the other issues, hopefully not though.

Congrats!

I think that yours is probably the majority experience.

I was really disappointed that, no matter how hard I tried, I could not get mine to 'moo' or make any other animal noises.

Oh, don't worry, I'm sure someone will let you have a moo mp3 that you can play continuously if you really, really want it :D

Unfortunately, I can't help there, since I belong to that happy majority as well.

It's OK because it's your Dad's; I'm sure if it was yours, it would have lots of problems...
Seriously though, reading various forums had me expecting the worst:

Mooing
Whining
Screen flicker
Dead pixels
Bulging or cracked case
Creaking
Airport connection issues
DVD drive noises and disc reading problems
Overheating
Sudden shutdown
Ect, ect.

I too, must be an anomaly because my new Macbook is !@#$%^& perfect!

Should I also buy a lottery ticket while I'm on a roll?

I've had my macbook since November and it hasn't had a problem. Occassionally I've noticed that if I close the lid and reopen it the macbook restarts. It's happened like 3 times so I'm not too worried. The performance is perfect stock (the 2ghz model) and we'll see when I feel it's time to upgrade. Hopefully not within years unless Apple's advertising campaign screws my bank account again.
