Hi! 😊
So I recently acquired a 2017 iMac running high Sierra and it seems to be efi locked. I did some research and saw that reprogramming the chip was a work around solution for the lock. However lm wondering if the hash that appears upon keyboard command at the efi Lock Screen is able to be cracked via programs such as John the ripper or hashcat thus rendering a work around solution. Anyone know if the efi hash can be cracked without the apple scbo file? If not I also read that an emulator 2 reset via Mac to another Mac can reset an efi locked Mac or iMac . I’ve tried that method via Mac air to iMac because I own a Mac air to solve the problem and had luck. Anyone know if that should work or of an alternative to an efi reprogram? Attached is the efi lock for reference. Any help in regards to the aforementioned problem is much appreciated. Thanks!

You will need to contact the person you purchased the Mac from for that password. You can take it to an Apple store who can reset the Mac, but you will need to prove you own the Mac.

You have choices:
1. Find out who the original owner was and get the proof of purchase to prove to Apple.
2. Use the iMac as is and keep doing updates - never will be able to wipe, restore or put on a fresh OS.
3. Find a EFI removal service online.
