Got Imac .. Something inside the glass!!!!!

got my 24" a minute ago and thought I had a dead pixel. Oh well if it really gets to me I might say something about it. But i get to looking and if i get under it or above it it looks like it is on the inside of the glass? Is that what a dead pixel looks like or is there something on the inside glass.
I can look under it and see the complete image where the dot should be.

If you have an Apple Store nearby, I'd take it there and have them look at it. If it is something under the glass, maybe they have the tools and can get it out for you. I don't know if removing the glass voids the warranty or not, but if it does, I'd take it in and say, "Please, will you be so kind to get this out so my beautiful new (costly) investment has this easy fix defect. Thank you kind sir." As the Apple people seem to need much coddling.

is what i am describing a dead pixel? Or can you see the dead pixel from an angle? i can look under and over it and see the image behind it. Is that describing what a dead pixel is, or is something on the inside of the glass.

Sounds like you have something on the reverse of the glass, either remove the glass carefully and clean away or take it back to the store and have them do this if you ain't confident. OR there may be a flaw in the glass, in which case you'll want to return either the iMac or just the glass for a new glazed panel.

This blows so bad. I dont think it would bother me that much but on a white background its annoying. The only thing is this thing is AWESOME! I dont want to let it go back to the Apple Online store for another week. I dont think my wife would even notice it but I did from the start.

One thing no one has told me that I have asked. If it is a dead pixel it would be in the same place at different angles right? I can look under it and see the image.

seems to me the glass panels are not connected to the imac in uber clean/controlled conditions thus prone to attract dust in rare occations.

Ok. It looks to me like a dead pixel small and square. UNTIL i get below it or above it or from the sides. Then I can look at it and see the image without a flaw.

So is it a dead pixel? Is that how one is described? Or is it most likely something on the inside of the glass. Wonder if I should stick with it or risk getting one that is worse.

No with a dead pixel you will not be able to look around it or underneath it. So in this case it looks like dust/dirt as you say you can look underneath the dirt and see the screen behind it close up.

Even though people are posting about dead pixels/dirt, i doubt this is something majorly serious as remember more people post about defects in the hardware. So if i were you, get it looked at, at your local store if possible or get a replacement.

ok the more i look at it it is something on the glass (or the glass is messed up). it is about the size of 2 pixels. the more i play with this big ass screen the more it doesnt enter my mind. it is about 3/4 of an inch in and about 3 inches up on the left side. The only way i really notice it is if i have a white background over there. there is so much real estate on this thing that i might just keep it. if it gets to me later on I have apple care. its about the size of the tip of an ink pen. Also I dont want to chance it by getting a refurb or one with dead pixels. the pixels are so small anyway i dont see how that would bother anyone. should i send it back now? would i get a refurb or a new one?

It sounds like it could be a dead pixel, and the reason why you can't see it when you look down at the display could be because of the glass. Glass can distort your view of things: it can make it look like it is in a different location than where it really is. Just a possibility, not saying that that is definitely the case.

I'd take it to the Apple Store.

There is no way you would get a refurb, as they surely do not exist yet. They would most likely fix the one you have, or if it is unable to be fixed (which is unlikely) they would give you a new one.

Done and done.

I got my 20" today.... Was very happy with it.... no dead pixels... but then all of a sudden BAM! A spec of dust between the lcd and the glass that made it LOOK like a dead pixel.

I was pissed.

After a few minutes of deciding, we (brother and I) removed the glass with a couple suction cups. Super easy. Almost too easy. Wiped away the dust and replaced the glass....

Then noticed that I removed 1 piece of dust and replaced it with 3 more. Ugh...

Long story short: 6 x glass removals, 1 x good wipe down with windex and a lint free cloth. I also needed a can of compressed air to blow away dust that was wanting to settle on the bare glossy LCD panel while I had the glass off. Now I have a blemish free screen!

Woo hoo!

Got my new 24" iMac today and I have exactly the same this in the center of the screen. I also thought it was a bad pixel. However, like you, when I look from different angles I can see what is underneath the imperfection. I am going to call Apple tomorrow and send it back for a replacement. If you have ever had a chip in the windshield of your car that has started a small crack, it kind of looks like the small crack; shiny from certain angles.

Oh well .... hopefully they will replace it quickly. I will let you all know what happens.

Also, other than the imperfection, the computer is FAST and the screen is beautiful. :)
