Got my macbook (black)

Well, got tired of playing the waiting game. I picked up a black macbook, stuck in 2 gigs of ram I got from newegg, and booted 'er up. Wow. Installed Logic Pro - wow. Better than my dual g5 tower! I figure this will hold me over until the new new new notebooks come out with 802.11n and core 857290 quintuple. It just got silly going without a laptop (my old one was knocked off a desk by a friend) for months on end, doing presentations with a mac mini that I carried around. I figure since I'm keeping all the original packaging and I'll take good care of this laptop, I can sell it when I'm ready to upgrade as well.

This thing is fast. What are the normal problems? I know RSD is one (haven't had it happen yet). I know temp is one (mine is 54c at 100% cpu usage on highest performance settings while charging the battery plugged in.) Some kind of "sound" coming from the notebook is one. I have none of these problems. Anything else I should look out for? Also, how do I tell which "week" it is?

54°C is damned good. My iBook's running at 57°C at the moment and all I'm doing is surfing the net - mind you the case only feels slightly warm, I could use it on my lap no problems, in fact..., hurp!! there we go.

Sounds like you got a good'un. Now I want one even more but I've got my eye on a sweet little C2D iMac....

I think the week is the 4th and 5th number in the serial number. Not sure though.

Yeah, it feels *cold* compared to my old 12" g4 1ghz powerbook. I'm pretty happy so far! The real test will be how I feel in a week.

I just use the iStat nano widget.

CoreDuoTemp is excellent. I assigned it to startup so everytime I boot it's next to the time on the menu bar. I'm currently at 62C 23% of 1.5GHz =)

I heard that iStat brings better results and that CoreDuoTemp might not have realiable results.
Any correct me if I'm wrong, please?

i dont know why but so far my laptop has only been 40* once and less then that usually, ganet that im not doing anything extensive. Usually just surfing and chating.

I was doing some pretty intense mixing and remixing for some clients...connected the MacBook to an external display and hid the MacBook under the desk (ran it with the lid closed) and I received quite a few comments on the speed.

Checked the System Usage in Pro Tools...wasn't even hitting 75%...how bout them apples?

Yeah, this thing is amazing in Logic. I've got it hooked up to a big flat screen too, and it runs beautifully. Even the logic pro 7 demo song (you know, the clubbish one on the content dvd) full 23" mix plays flawlessly. My tracks are flying.

This makes a great portable audio workstation. I'm going to add an apogee ensemble, some JBL active monitors, and acoustic treatment to my workspace, and I'll be rolling! I'm running two keyboards (88 key and 61 key) in right now, via usb, and having no problems whatsoever. Anybody planning to do logic/pro tools, forget the mbp, the mb is just as fast for that purpose. You're just missing the fw800, which nothing really uses.

PS - I bet you didn't intend on the pun, anddddddddddd -

PRO TOOLS SUCKS!!! (Let the holy war begin.)

Congrats on your Black MacBook! I had a white MacBook and I had not a single problem. miniStat2 is what I use. It has the Intel Temp measuring thing now. All of that can be found at www.shockwidgets.com . miniStat2 is really awesome. It keeps everything in a small widget which is what I need. I hope this helps!

I got my white MacBook a few days ago.. would have loved a black one but I couldn't afford it (maybe next year )

Only fault with mine is a squaky space bar (annoying) - so not sure what I'm doing about it yet.. they've already given me a free Brenthaven bag (£39.99) and a full version of iWork due to all the various problems with the order.
