Got my macbook!

Just got my macbook, first time using Mac OS. Damn its so easy to just jump right in and use, loving it so far.

Things i've noticed so far. Heat lots of heat. it idles at about 60c and goes into the 80's under load, probably going to change the thermal paste in a few days.

Things i haven't noticed:

Whining. This thing is silent.
Mooing, again none of it, absolutely silent. Fans are barely even audible even under load.

Warping on the casing... nope none of that either.

This thing is basically perfect

I was quite worried i was going to suffer loads of these problems i've been reading about, but i'm so happy there are none. Not having problems with the "Sharp" keyboard edge either as i don't find myself resting on it.
This is actually the first notebook i've used so the keyboard layout and trackpad is going to take some getting used to.

Anyway thats enough babbling for now, i'm sure i'll start posting here more often from now on, now that i am officially a member of the mac community.

hey congratz on the perfect laptop! you might want to download "coreduotemp" or "temperature monitor" and see if it starts mooing in the 64-69 degrees celcius range. also, seeing if the powerbrick hisses/whines when your macbook is low on power and running. ive noticed that the hissing dies down once the macbook is near to fully charged.

oh yea, to copy on a mac its apple+c instead of ctrl+c. im a switcher too! so just keep in mind most things you used to do with ctrl is now apple haha. and there are some odd icons for buttons too.. like shift is a big arrow up on some shortcut things, but im sure youll figure that out sooner or later!

ive had my macbook (2.0GHz White) for a day now and im experiencing the exact same things... im using CoreTempDuo and idles at 60 and upper 70s under load. no mooing or whining so far either.

although 60s is a bit warmer than i would like but i could get used to it, especially in the winter i would like to see what reapplying the thermal paste would do but thats too risky for me.

Try Command-C to copy instead (the Apple key is "command"). Likewise, Command-X is cut, and Command-V is paste.

i would like to see what reapplying the thermal paste would do but thats too risky for me.

I've done it and it hasn't really helped. I used the suggested technique from AS5's website (the technique i've been using for years) of placing a tiny amount in the center and then letting the heatsink spread it. I'm considering opening her up again and spreading it myself this time.

It's not particulaly difficult to dissasemble (usin ifixit guides) but some of the screws are absolutely tiny.

After all of the posts talking about problems that people have had with their MacBooks, I'm happy to say that I'm in the same club as the OP - no problems. I'm selling my 15" Powerbook (the most recent PPC model...Rev D?) to fund it, and I couldn't be happier with the trade off.

No noise, no excessive heat, blazing fast 2.0ghz with 1GB of RAM (for now). I picked up the white model, and it looks great.

I know there are people combing the boards here looking for reasons to buy or not to buy - so I wanted to chime in with my experience as well.
