Thanks for the pics, enjoy it. :) I'm waiting on my X1900, so I'm in the "3-4 weeks" conundrum. LOL

That pic of the MacPro and G5 next to each other is one I haven't seen yet. Amazing how much cooling had to be given to the G5 (air or liquid cooled) and how small the heatsinks are for the Xeons. Still tall but so much smaller.

neat. but my new PC tower is better and has more real estate.

although compared to the Mac Pro in performance, doesn't stand a chance.

i'll be eagerly awaiting for your Power Mac G5 on eBay.

Nice pics. In the second to last picture where you're showing the 150GB WD Raptor, what keyboard is that? It doesn't look like the Apple one, unless it's just a weird angle.

Looks to me like an older Apple keyboard. I haven't been a Mac guy for too long - only a year - but the only time I've ever seen those keyboards was at my University hooked up to an old G4 iMac.

Spot on. It definitely looks like the older keyboards. The USB connections on are either side of the keyboard, instead of on either side of the USB cord that connects to the computer.

That would be the first keyboards from Apple's white line, I'm sure they came on the iMac G4s but I don't know which computer they were first introduced for and when they got the boot, very nice keyboard, like the old black G4 tower keyboards but white lol.

Like it better than the current white keyboard.

The picture that says "The Mac Pro takes the throne" almost made me cry.

That G5 must be so sad.... it's sitting there all by itself...... all lonely.

Are you selling it? Make sure it gets a good home.......:(

Cool pics!

Man, that thing must be a beast! I never even got to use a G5, but judging by my Mac mini and how fast the Core Duo is, I can't even imagine how fast that Xeon must be. I wish we had an Apple Store around here, so I could go check 'em out in person!

It's a Matias Tactile Pro. Very clicky. One of the very best keyboards I've used. The parts are getting scarce to make it though- they just doubled the price to $150 or so.

I highly recommend it.

hey man, what are the noise levels like compared to the g5?

cheers, congrats
Well, unlike the G5, the Mac Pro has never really ramped up the fans audibly. Not so far, anyway. That said, I'd say the standard level of fan noise is maybe 1/3 to 1/2 the level of the G5 at "idle."

very nice. I must say I like the inside finish of the G5 better. I like the plastic heat sink with the silver G5. Mostly you had 2 :p I only have 1 core :D
The heatsink shell of the G5 is entirely metal. No plastic. To the left of it, looking in from the side, is the plastic fan manifold.

Ya, two cores is nice. The difference between one and two is much greater than between two and four, though. My first dual-core was the Quicksilver G4 800. It felt far faster than the 1.42GHz G4 mini does, despite a slower bus on the Quicksilver.

:) Sounds like it's going to a good home. I recently auctioned it on eBay. Just shipping it today. It brought $2,500 on eBay for the tower with two HD's, 4.5GB RAM, and the GeForce 6800 Ultra. Not bad, really. It's 2 years old.

Wow I thought it was one of the first Apple white keyboards, eerily similar, like the original Apple pro keyboard but in white.

Yes, I believe Matias tried to style the unit after the Apple Pro keyboard, but with far nicer feeling keys.

Arn, who runs this site, just picked one up and is pleased with it.

I went with the default GF7300 and no Bluetooth to avoid waits. I ordered the base from MacMall and got it the next day. Installed additional 2GB RAM I got from the local Apple Store. I've ordered an X1900 card from Apple and will toss the GF7300 when I get it. Took a hit in price, of course.

The GF7300 is a good bit less powerful than the GF6800 Ultra in my old G5.
