You need a SATA drive. I'd recommend picking up a Seagate drive if they have one (Seagate is what most Mac Pros ship with in the first place).

As for the noise - are you just noise sensitive, or is it really noisy? More detail please. They are very quiet machines.

I got a SATA 3.0 gb/s 320 gig from newegg.com for 80 bucks a couple weeks back. I plugged it into the mac pro and haven't had ANY problems with noise or anything else for that matter. I think the only thing you need to make sure of is that you get the SATA 3.0 and not the 1.5, although, the 1.5 might work, but it seems like the 3.0's are getting more common.

about the noisy part, i am verry noise sensetive, again it doesn't bother me but when not playing music i really here something spinning, i guess its noise coming from the fans, the hardrive or the ati 1900

I need to get one as well. i want a smaller drive, just to use as the system drive. Have all my work stored on the other drive, and backup over the network to my G4. Great prices, but way too much storage space for what i need it for.

And it definitely has to be quiet, Apple seem to buy the loudest f'n drives they can get. i hate that damn thing.

And there is not doubt the noise in my mac pro is from the hard drive and the damn dvd drive i've ranted about throughout these forums.

I'm shocked at how quiet my Mac Pro is, at least relative to any of my PCs. It's by far the quietest tower I've ever owned.
