I've had my MBP for just over a year now. I'd been waiting for the new Mini since then to get my wife a Mac, since an iMac wasn't quite the right fit for her, and she has 0 need for a laptop. Last week we got the base level Mini plus a keyboard. This weekend we finally got her all set up on it.
She has been using her new Mini all weekend and seems to have taken to using it just as well as her old XP machine. It really isn't all that different from what she had with XP - email, contacts, browsing, and kids' school project work. The old system never really had problems other than a failing video card that I replaced, so support was never an issue.
My wife was involved in most of the setup process, which is a first for her with any computer. I handled moving the data from XP to the Mac myself, since that's a one-time thing. Extracting email, contacts and calendar from Outlook Express and Outlook (she was using both) was more tedious than it should have been. At least there are ways to extract it using various free programs on the web. My wife would never have figured it out herself, though.
The Mini is much quieter than the old tower system. Her mother, visiting over part of the weekend, really likes the new Mac keyboard. My wife prefers her thumb-ball mouse, so I didn't get a Mighty Mouse (I hate them, myself). I'm happy that we finally have a more reliable backup for her computer and don't have to worry about anti-virus anymore.
I intend to get an extra GB of memory for the Mini. I'd have done so when we bought it, but none of the Apple stores around here had the upgrade in stock. I'm now trying to decide if I want to get it elsewhere and do it myself or just wait and let them do it at the store when they get it in. I'm slightly intimidated by the process of opening up and taking apart the Mini to get to the memory because it seems more involved than any other computer I've taken apart. Note that I've build PCs from an empty case and up, so I'm not incompetent at messing with the insides. For the moment the 1GB seems to be plenty, so there's no rush to do the upgrade right now.
Now if I could only convince work to buy a Mac instead of Lenovo...
