Was on my wish list for some time....

It is the NeXTstation Color (25 MHz 68040), with the NeXT Megapixel (greyscale) monitor.
Running NeXTSTEP 3.3, and I got all the diskettes, CD's and books all original!
Even have the original Apple Y2K fix for NeXT!

Is it fast... NO!
Is it fun... YES!

NeXT is really Genesis of Mac OS X..

For those not "in the know", short description of the evolution of Mac OS X (from about 1989 to now)

- NeXTSTEP (Motorola 68k, Intel, and more)
- OPENSTEP (Motorola 68k, Intel, and more)
- Rhapsody (Development Mac OS X [Server 1.x - features of Copland introduced] on PPC and Intel)
- Mac OS X 1.x Server (Retail - PPC,)
- Mac OS X Developer Previews 1 & 2 (PPC, non Aqua)
- Mac OS X Developer Previews 3 & 4 (PPC, with Aqua)
- Mac OS X Public Beta (Retail - PPC, with Aqua)
- Mac OS X 10.0 (Retail - PPC, with Aqua)

Mac OS X has always been x86 (Intel) compatible, from later versions of NeXT onward, till Mac OS X 10.6.x

Playing around with NeXTSTEP 3.3 on this NeXTstation, so many things are so recognizable.... A Dock, the "xx.lproj" directories, NetInfo (okay.. not anymore on OS X), packages, .app, etc... (so many more...), and even the hardware: "command"-key, "alternate"-key, Display Brightness and Volume on Keyboard... and two button Mouse ;)

Whatever.. see some pics!

Wonderful! Congratulations!

What's the OS like?

Very cool
Congrats

Tnx guys!

The OS looks like a mix between Mac OS X and Linux. There is no Aqua, and no Apple-ish features like an Apple menu. But there is a Dock, and looking at it "under" the GUI so many stuff reminds you of Mac OS X "under" the GUI.
So, there are absolutely no visual connections with Mac OS 8 or 9 (except AppleTalk), which later versions of "early Mac OS X" (i.e. Rhapsody, Mac OS X Server 1.x, Mac OS X 10.x) do have.
Getting TCP/IP working requires manually editing (with "pico", like OS X) the /etc/hostconfig file, as the GUI editor (System - Preferences - Network) doesn't seem to work well, and DHCP is not supported yet.

But, man... is it cool!!! I love this thing!:apple::)

Oh WOW!!! :eek::cool:

Very, very cool...!

I haven't the faintest idea how much it will go up to.... I thought my NeXTstation would be far more expensive (I have seen one similar to mine at an auction a few years ago, and it cost € 600 back then..).
It's a question of how many freaks like us actually want to pay good money for an almost 20 year old computer.
I would have gone to about € 500,-

The current owner may or may not know it is a collector's item.

What I did is, I made an offer and emailed the owner asking how much he would think it would fetch. Someway or another having that contact (email) does help your cause.

That's the ugliest effing thing I've ever seen.

Oh, wait, Steve Jobs was associated with it?

Wow, amazing! You can really see the evolution of the Apple design! I think I see a bit of iMac design in there.

LOL
Remember how PC's and Macs looked back then..?? Well, yeah.. then suddenly the NeXTstations look pretty good!

Still, it is a piece of Mac OS X history, I didn't buy it for its esthetics value.. :p
