both my 3g and 3gs my method worked on. also to downgrade you need to restore to a non custom ipsw. after that to get out off error 1015 you need to jailbreak.

That would be a yes. Background picture doesn't consume any resources, so I doubt there would be a problem.

How to activate iPhone OS 4.0 Beta without UDID registration

Very nice of you not tell the people how you did install the beta without the UDID registration!

I did it also and even unlocked the hidden features for the iPhone 3G like multitasking and user wallpaper.

It`s no fake and you don`t have to pay for anything like registering UDIDs or something..I simply used the redsn0w jailbreak to SSH on my device and editet the SystemVersion.plist by deleting two lines identifying the firmware as a beta.

To activate the hidden features I editet the N82AP.plist by adding the parameters multitasking=true and homescreen-wallpaper=true. Wrote an easy to understand guide with all the legal software you need (not the firmware, you need to search for it yourself!) to get it done.

Works for me and includes the new redsn0w beta2 witch solves problems with the 3G network. All the guides trying to customize the .ipsw files are fakes, this is impossible. You can not restore a non-jailbroken device with a custom firmware! You will get errors in iTunes, even if you try reencrypting the file.

So STOP paying for the UDID registrations and do it the way i did it, until now there`s no other guide on the net, this is unique. This is my guide (my nickname is 3asy):

I`m sorry, don`t have the money for a .com or .net server adress and linked a long dropbox index.html file to a .tk shortened link.
Theay add the white bar on the top and a popup
If you use safari you don`t have the popup!
I try to delete it in the next hours, if someone is familiar with .html editing please tell me how to do it, tried editing with texteditor and the software I used to create the site (iweb) but can`t see any adds.

Edit: Have deactivated the white bar at the top in my .tk settings, changes will take effect in aprox. 30 min. I can`t see any popups in safari and firefox either..
Edit2: I left dot.tk and am now using blogger.com without ads or popups!
