I have virtually every RSS application that the AppStore offers. I was a long-time GoogleRSS WebApp user before I found Manifesto on the AppStore. In fact, Manifesto is great minus its ability to sync...dealbreaker...because no one wants to come home to 200 Feeds they've already read?!

Byline WAS the $9.99 App that you wouldn't think about buying at that price. This week two things happened that make it a MUST HAVE; upgrade to 2.0 and price drop $6!

It syncs with Google Reader (this was HUGE for me) even utilizing your tags to organize Feeds into folders (2.0). The landscape view is elegantly done and available throughout the App. It has MobileSafari available at the tap of a button; that means pitch and double-tap to zoom work flawlessly.

Don't miss this Byline 2.0 while the price is low.

ByLine is awesome in it's 2.0 incarnation! I snagged it this morning and it syncs flawlessly with Google Reader and it is FAST.

Tip: You can mark an article as read from the list view with a left-right swipe like deleting in other apps.

Google Reader itself is a pull service anyway as it polls the feeds you are subscribed to at set intervals and really what would the point of push be?

because there isn't a pull alternative!
Like hourly pulls.

I guess I am demanding too much... But I would pay a good price for such a client.

Serious? Because then a little badge would pop up on the app icon telling us there are new feeds without us being required to open the app and refresh. Same reason I want push on Beejive.

I don't know about you but I'm not subscribed to all that many feeds however whenever I do a sync in Byline or Google Reader then 99.5% of the time I have new items to read, I just don't see the point in such updates being pushed.

Whenever I have time to read feeds then I fire up Google Reader if near a computer or Byline on the iPhone so to me push in a feed reader just doesn't make sense, I don't see the need for it.

This thing is more than a steal!
The archiving even archives the outgoing links and it is insanely fast.

Already impressed in 5 mins.
I can almost gurtantee this for most people.

I'm not sure about you but I have enough feeds that I can would ALWAYS have a badge. I can count on at least 5 new feeds every 10 minutes 6AM to 11PM! Just enable autosyncing.

People. Please realize this App has its own settings under General Settings.

Yeah, I think people probably realise this, and anyway, autosyncing is enabled by default. The point is, with the current iphone OS limitations, you have to keep the app open for this to work. People want "push" to get around this, so notifications of new items can be sent when the app is not open.

My point is that whether the PUSH shows a 1 or a 200 in the badge I will be opening the App. Since I can assume there is always at least 5 waiting I just open the App when I have that time.

This has become an interesting topic in itself...
Since the iPhone does not not allow background processes, this also means that simple pulling from a web service will only be possible via a push solution, and one that must come from a server (not from the client itself).

and I agree on both sides here... Push is not suitable for something like reading RSS feeds (for some of us we would have a lot of feeds coming in every couple of minutes and that would instantly kill your battery).



Now back to topic: Byline is so good that I think it has replaced safari for most of my on the go browser needs. And that is saying a lot.

Nobody's wrong here -- push could be useful if you only subscribe to a few low-volume feeds, but is much less useful otherwise. In any case, offering push without Google's explicit support would be very difficult, so I doubt I'll be adding this feature.

which currently has a password issue, meaning login is difficult. Not sure if the fix release is out yet but AppStore is still showing v1.0.

These items are available for offline browsing (including embedded images and, optionally, the full web page), and when you're online you can scroll to the bottom of a list and tap "Load More Items..." to see more.

These limits are per list and not per subscription, so if you're not seeing enough of a particular feed you may want to create a separate folder just for that feed.

I have seen it hiccup every now and then with not loading new articles when it should, this is most often the case with the New Items special folder when you do a sync without first closing the app after reading a whole bunch of articles as those read articles mustn't get cleared until you exit.

Byline is a great app well worth 4 bucks. Though I find myself switching between it and gazette from day to day. I have reviews of both Byline and Gazette on my site
